Well summer is almost here so I figured I might as well learn how to start map making. I am taking CAD next year so that will help me. Anyways I have looked at the sticky and I have download Gmax, HEK/HEK+, Chimp (gmax exporter), and the Bluestreak project things. I know I am missing a skinning program but I can get that later. Now I am asking you guys if there are any other small apps that can help me along with my map making. Remember I am a beginner so I don't need apps that will help me with stuff I don't know yet.

When the time comes for custom texturing, and if you don't want/can't get Photoshop, use the alternative, The Gimp. Just google it.

Probably wasn't paid for, I doubt someone would give you a full version that costed like $3000.

SuperSniper I added you on Xfire, so If you need any help you can ask me. I may not know much about Forerunner, but I do know about modeling, tagging, animating, error-fixing, and whatever else is needed.(I can't think of anything else, lol)

It also depends on what you are doing. For beginners, there is arg written everywhere.

True ^ Unfortunatly, Tutorials are great if you can understand what they are talking about through the mic :/ Some put it so close its like:

"Then you labgl;jasbga;skgbahkbs;gba there, and then you click kabhgk;agtil;akgba;s"

And some don't have a mic in their tutorial. *cough*Guru*cough*.lol.

HEK+

It's useful for getting missing tags from, and gives you a constant supply of backups in your original maps.

Well... how do I extract the tags. I opened beavercreek.map and I see all the folders but I cannot open the folders. How do I view the tags and extract them?

Right click the folders you want, select add to extraction queue. If you don't have it on, look in tools or view, and find the option to turn it on.

Check the boxes and select extract.

Why can't you open them? Show a screenshot of what your HEK window looks like. You should have a Maps, Output, Explorer, Tag Properties, and Tag Extraction Queue.

What mine looks like:

Try a simple box map, like the one in the HEK tutorial. That'll get you slightly familiar to the modelling tools. Then, you can mess with all the modifiers and see the results.

For something simple to start with, why not something in your room? Look at your computer screen and model it.

Oh yeah Supersniper, just a FYI, NEVER extract the vehicles folder, because doing so pretty much results in fubaring your Tank tags. If you want a vehicle, go in the vehicles folder and find it, but never extract the scorpion one.
