I know this is probebly a stupid question, but here it is...

The only program that I can play Halo sound tags in is Geurilla. They don't work on Media player or Winamp (Because their differant formats).

Does anyone know a media playing/sound playing program that can play the Halo sound tags in and save/convert them to an MP3, Wav, etc?

If you do, please respond.

(Thanks in advance).

I would like a .sound to .wav converter myself, but you can make Geurilla play a .soundlooping tag as well if you want to listen to all the permitaitions of a .sound tag without having to select the next permitation and click play again.

The way you make it play a .soundlooping is click the add button on each permitation in the sound looping tag and press the play button, the only problem with this is it goes quiet for a bit between each permitation which is a bit anoying and means you can't use a screencapture program (I can't find a decent one for free anywhere, except fraps and that only works in-game and for 30secs only) to convert it to a .wav yourself.

I also have problems getting the game to play my sound tag permitations for my main menu music in the right order so if anyone can help with that please do.

Hmm...

You said about adding permitions? Will that allow me to play it in a WAV/MP3 player, or something similar?

An old Halo expert on Secondlife built some amazing Forunner base called "Subnova". He had all Covenent ambience sound effects in his base which were from Halo: Combat Evolved sound tags, and he had them as an MP3 format or something.

I want to do the same with my base. He sais he used some "special" program, but won't tell me.

Hmm. I was going to try that, but I don't know any SPECIFIC tools.

It's strange how on almost any PC game you can easily get the sounds in MP3/WAV from the program folder, but Bungie always have to put them in some "unknown" format... -_-

Does "sounds.map" sound familiar?

Yes a sound.map is just a sound that is played all over one part of the map.

Some sounds are contained in one file such as "Pak". But thats differant.

I think the reason all the Halo sounds are in an "Unknown format" or encrypted into a ".map" file is because of some copyright crap.

Some person I was talking to said I would have to obtain "Special permission" from Microsoft, and I really can't be bothered to do all that. All I need is some damn ambience sounds for my Orbital Base in Secondlife...

(Also I tried Audacity, didn't work. I first tried opening the tag normaly, and the format wasn't recognized, I tried importing it as raw data, and it then just appears as a blank file).

I am not sure. I was lazy so I went on the computer that doesn't have CE on, so I downloaded the "A50 Sound Tags" from this site, they just had names like "a50 sound tag 1",
"a50 sound tag 2", etc.

But when I get the chance, I'll download Audacity on the computer that DOES have CE on. Then I'll have another go...

(The sounds I need is that "covy ship" tag from a50, and the "grav lift" one).

I know a way, but if this is for ripping sounds for another game then I'm not helping.

Nooo...

Not for another game. For some ambience for my base I built in a virtual world called "Secondlife".

I think it's allowed. (Aslong as you don't go around selling it ofcourse).

Uh... if I recall correctly, Secondlife is a game. Whatever, I'll have to see if I can find it in the PMs sent list, since I lost the original copy.

I see Secondlife as a game, (but a Virtual game). You just build random stuff out of blocks, I just need it as ambience...

Thanks.

Sombody in this post has said you can use halo hacker tools, which is a program that supposedly lets you make biped tags into vehicles to make ai sync, but when I tried that it the game exceptioned after I had walked around the map for a bit (it was bloodgultch ai but had the wrong lightmap, also I was was only person in the LAN sever so I never found out if they synced).

I have halo hacker tools and although I've never seen an option to convert the sound I expect you can do that, so try it out.

Also Adaucity only seems to open one permitation of the sound tag when I tried it, not all the permitations.

Ive tried Halo Hacking tools, you have to open up a ".map2 file, and when I do it opens but with loads of errors and crap, so I can't do anything..

Also, I don't know how to do all that permutation stuff on Audacity. I tried opening a sound tag in the CE folder with the "Import raw data" thing and it just plays blank.

Thanks so much man! I can finaly extract files and play them in Winamp, wav, Media player, etc... All the voices are in Ogg, which i can easily play.

The only problem is that the actual ambience sounds are in some "ADPCM" fomat, and the codec isn't supported for Vista. Typical Microsoft, eh?
