It's getting there, Maybe change the illum tint, fix the uv's on the fronds, lower the bump a bit?

Anyone have any advice on the tentacles' smoothing?

Pretty sure the illum is fine as is, h2 never really tinted illum as far as i know, they just used color data in the texture itself, so if it was white, its probably white lol. Bump coefficient should always be 1, doesnt really look too strong imo, all of h2's bump maps are pretty apparent anyway.

As for the smoothing, did you weld/optimize the model yet? If so, just use a smoothing group of 1, heck you could use smoothing group 1 on the entire model, its pretty much all round geometry. But welding/optimizing will get rid of sharp edges where the faces meet for the most part.

Yes, If i hadn't there wouldn't be any smoothing at all. I think I used auto smooth for this model, but manually gave the tentacles there own group. I might try unifying the smoothing groups to 1.

EDIT: if there were no illums, what was the flood_infection_light texture for? CC?

lol thats not what i meant, sorry. I was saying that the color doesnt really need to be changed, the light texture is just an illum texture.

Didn't read properly, my fault. Right now it's using stock flood illum/tint without the cosine; Just as a placeholder.
I don't know if this is a beta shot or some perm, but It looks like it has no normal mapping.

And relies heavily on selfillum? It has about the same tint as the other halo 2 shot, but not as the albedo map.

Just realized the other halo 2 shot was from h2v, but the xbox maps have the normals in the map files, maybe it's unused?

Ah, might be a beta image, dunno, cant remember what it looked like on h2x, i only own h2v right now, if you can get a good reference from h2x go with that to get the shaders to look right. If your using entity, you can look at the shader meta data to get color values/detail scaling and such.

I have been..

Inconclusive.
It also kind of looks like how halo's stock infection form uses cube maps, but there's no cube maps in either h2x or h2v shaders.

Use the other editor mode, double click on the shader tag, youll get way more information than with the UI version above ^

h2 sparsely used cubemaps on dynamic objects, due to specular lighting being introduced into the game.

Anyone got a Grunt (Mass effect series) 3d model? I don't really care if it's raw or not. I just can't find one and would appreciate it if I could get one. Textures too. I don't have the game, I just think it would be cool to work with.

Gotta fix the hands and teeth yet. The chest is like that because is the symmetry modifier.
It will be fine as it is for texturing though. The seams I have tried to place under the armor or in places
People won't pay that much attention too. I.e inside of legs.

Wait, Bourrin is an archer? Awesome. Bourrin has gained respect. Altheros has lost respect for trying to make it an insult. Archery is awesome. Nothing bad about being able to fire arrows at targets.... such as Altheros.

Placing nodes are rather easy, in 3DS at least.
FMT and Altheros are the same person.
IP Bans are easily worked around, either by dynamic IP's, proxy's, or just hiding your IP, pretty basic stuff.
That answers all your questions.

yeah i get that placing nodes is easy but i am saying is it the same with rigging like can i import a master chief and rig up a model and are all the different limbs supposed to be models like i have tried looking for a tutorial but the only one i can find is tehlags and it isn't very well comprehendible


also are you sure that FMT is smart enough to proxy i mean he spends his time annoying people on a forum which he bags its like saying i hate this sport and then going to every event to do with it
