Extinction2 project, official WIP (Work in progress) thread.

I have made lots of progress in my project:
To make extinction better.

Most recent beta:

Current modifications:
FRESH SPANKIN NEW BSP FTW by bobbysoon!
No mythos.
Blue team's beam spire shoots blue beam.
Added two broadwords.
Fuel rod ghosts replace brute ghosts.
Covenant base is more compact; human base has new sareas that are more crucial than the hangar.
Human flag moved to new sniper area.
Covenant flag moved near scarab spawn.
No shields on sniper bases.
Balanced weaponry.
One pelican in hangar, three coldsnap pelicans outside. One more original may be added.
Vehicle teleport into human cruiser moved to where ghosts can access it, and so they won't fall under the map trying to get to it.
Teleports to new sniper area.
Teleports into hangar.
Four brute ghosts.
Four spectres.
Two gun towers, one on each side of the canyon.
Three phantoms, three spirits, two krakens, two seraphs.
Phantom fire rate increased dramatically.
Seraph fire rate increased dramatically. Physics drastically improved by bobbysoon.
No more super tanks; three normal tanks (no longer flipped.) Pending changes...
Additional equipment added.(Overshields, health packs.) Pending changes...
Night biped removed; may be re-added.
Armory and bridge are deleted. Only the hog room left. I plan to re-add the armory.
three wraiths added.
Cave is more scary, and provides more stealth.
Hog teleport leads to better location.
Campsites added.
Jets are gone.

Problems:
Balance is an issue.
Complaints of being too white.

Working on:
As of now...population in sapien.

Please, offer all your criticism, give me all your thoughts, all your solutions, ideas, all of it.
I need to know exactly what to fix, exactly what needs to be altered.

No more vehicle addition discussion. If you want to talk about the vehicles, talk about how they can be modified.

Now, current vehicle types:

Covenant gun tower.
Wraith tank.
Scorpion tank.
Scarab tank.
Gauss warthog.
Stingray.
Longsword.
Brute ghost.
Spectre.
Seraph.
Coldsnap\extinction pelicans.

Pending vehicles:
Fuel rod ghost.
Kraken fighter.
Missile hog.
Rocket hog.

More may be added depending on neccesity. Covenant\human balance is very difficult in this scenario. The humans have a nice, enclosed area along with a base camp outside, while the covenant are more spread out. I am trying to compress the covenant area, but I still want a use for the open space.

I am going over many different layouts in my head. The human base is pretty well set as is. I will most likely add more teleporters leading to the human base, for camping reasons...


I am really trying to keep that great feel that the original extinction has, of a big battleground filled with opportunities for battle. The human base I have perfect. It is very good, how ender designed the area...

...but the covenant base, as stated above, will require much layout editions.

I am going to add the Kraken in the map. The covenant need an edge here, and the kraken will be perfect for adding variety and helping to keep the feel I am going for.

BSP changes:

Bridge editing.
Cliff behind halcyon.

Everything else seems to be ok with me. Bobbysoon and Chocolatenugget will help in this area.

Finally, yes, the Phantom has yet to be adjusted. I used TheGhost's Gbxmodel converter to edit the Phantom. It won't compile into a Gbxmodel, however.

Recalling a PM from jargon...TheGhost's model importer doesn't get the nodes and markers right. This is most likely the cause. He has a solution.
Soon the new phantom will be complete, and then I'll do some guerilla editing, and boom, a new secondary phantom trigger.

Lets talk of weapon placement and how I can modify the vehicles.

I am going to make the scarab more balanced, tracking for the main cannon is removed, but the secondary turret will shoot either the same speed or slower, but will have greater range.

The longsword will shoot at the same rate, and still drop nukes...however, I may make a few projectile adjustments.

The stingrays will be added, and will work beautifully in the map.

Coldsnap pelicans may be altered slightly in terms of turning. Fixes bugs.

Fuel rod ghosts and brute ghosts will be available. They will have some weapons adjustments.

The normal pelican is fine. There will be only one, so, yeah.

The phantoms will be numerous. Two to four. They will have some adjustments, as well.

There will be two seraphs. They will of course be modified.

There will be three wraiths, because of the three scorpions on the map. They will be modified. Both of them.

The warthogs are fine, but the missile/chaingun hog has some big issues, so I am replacing it. With what? Another hog as of yet undecided.

BSP editing...

This is a complex affair, and will be completed last in the mod's process. When the scenario is fully and truly finished, BSP work will begin. I will be working with bobbysoon and chocolatenugget to edit the BSP under my direction, and then it will be completed, exported, and compiled for use. The map will undergo fierce beta testing and then, when all is right, I will release the map.

Now. Weapon/powerup/equipment placement. Begin discussion.

EDIT: I now see that the covenant side has somewhat of a disadvantage...they need an edge. Something good...

I may keep tracking for the scarab, but it will be much less extreme.

i have a 1.8 GHz processer so it doesn't ever lag for me in the gun tower

(unless the host has internet problems)

Still exceptions?

If so, can anyone think of any reason why?

And btw the barrier is probably there to prevent spawn killing.

Well I do really hate extinction but from what you have done so far it might get my download. I have noticed that you still have the scarab. What is the counter vehicle that can take it out. That was the reason why the mythos was even in there. I think you should put the mythos back in but modify it so it can be balanced out.

Extinction was a good idea but sucked because the creator did not think about gameplay and had way to many vehicles and error. Also try making it smaller...

scarab can be killed with the 1 ammo per clip sniper (forgot its name) LS can take it out too; probably pelican too

Meh but only 1 sniper and the longsword you need to nuke and the pelican just sucks in general.

Jets need lower speed, scarab may unbalance the map...

yes the towers are operable, just walk to 1 of the legs (the hind leg i believe) and itll say the usual press '#' to enter #

Alright, I fixed the teleports leading to the new towers.

The new beta is being uploaded to filefront, and soon to halomaps.

Remember, it is NOT a final version.

Well, i might have increased its speed a tad, and they naturally fall, so you are keeping up with them.

BTW, the jets one missle reason is unknown.

Any other problems?

And i noticed a starting point where a room used to be, don't worry.
In the final version it will be gone.

And no, the jets did not reload.

If so, it isn't that bad.

You gotta walk a little, jump off the ship, and walk to the nearest vehicle spawn...where the mythos used to be.

Two jets there. 'Nuff said.
Also, the scarab walks slower.

I didn't do it on purpose, but it makes the movement more...realistic. And more balanced.

in the projectile tag, theres an area called guided angular velocity, the needler has 90 and the plasma pistol has 80

but the ones from H3 look so cool. they get far away enough and then do a sharp turn towards u. is realistic cuz in actual jets the missle launches get a few yards away then starts its tracking process.

i no but now that i think of it it is kinda stupid. the projectile will turn too fast and no one will have a chance. o and hey u could just find the fuel rod ghost's projectile thingy and copy that to the banshee's. unless u completely deleted it lol

It is in my tags.
It is deleted from the map, not even dev can bring it back.
It is a good tag, but served no purpose in gameplay in the map.

And the banshee fuel rod should track just like the needler now, it needs to be tested...

Ugh!

This scripting bug is really ticking me off!

All the scripted vehicles, after a while they spawn at the scarab...anyone know why?

Also, I have another progress video.

It is uploading to xfire now...

More progress:
Also, the banshee's fuel rod does not fall nearly as fast now, but maybe I shouldn't have given the banshee shots negative gravity...they go up now...lol!

Also, the wraith shots now travel a million units before dissapearing.
Just the main cannon, not the secondary fire.

The scorpion is faster, but a little too fast...lol
The BRs wont spawn...going to just get rid of them. Or try to fix the item collection...

And the jet still needs work. lol

Night biped needs to be scripted...anyone know how to script the night change?

Possibly. doubt it. The only biped that is compatible with the vehicles is the one from extinction itself.

My xfire won't let me...

i select record sound, then i look back at the settings, and it unchecks itself...

Anyway, I think i am done!

The only thing i may have to edit is the jet.

Then it should be ready!

Also, there is a secret room, and a scarab gun in it!

Makes up for the scarab, I thought...lol
