just out of curiosity, a10 is the first level, a30 is the second. does this mean that another level, presumably named a20, was going to be in between? if i named my map a20, would it load after a10?

Is it possible to make an a20, and would the game load it?

I think the way the next levels are loaded is with a map_name command at the end...

If so, I has an idea. I'll find this script...and replace the name. Muahahahahah.

Why couldn't you name a map a20? Either way it's the map name. If you did "Mapname_anymap" it will still run it.

I was wondering how the game handle the sp levels too, in particular how does it go about making the buttons lock/unlock depending on which levels have been completed (I would like to make an sp level or maybe several that are unlocked on completing the last level of the default campaign(is it d40? somthing like that anyway.))

the key to make it work is to look at the code of it. but i think its a command you can use on halo ce too.

someone not important, Nexus Halo: Egg here means that if he named a level a20, would it load after a10, like a30 does on the normal campaign. He got the question from Donut.

I'm curious myself. I'm going to try it and see.

Didn't someone not important answer the question? Maps are loaded with the map_name command. I'm guessing that at the end of a10's script it says map_name a30.

they could have been levels where you don't play as master chief (the parts of the book 'the floods' with silva and mckay ect) but were cut
very unlikely though

They were just regular levels that they had to cut because they didn't have the time to make them (or make them any good).

the last line of the script is
game_won

(fade_out 1 1 1 0 )(game_won ))

That's a negative. It's the game_won command. That signals the game to load the next level in sequence.

no no, you guys dont understand what hes saying. what i was talking about is how in halo PC, not CE, the sp levels load in order with no map_name command required. a10, a30, a50 and so on are internally recognized names, so the script has nothing to do with the order in which they are loaded. my question was if you made a level named a20, and placed it in the maps folder, would the game automatically load a20 after a10, then load a30 afterwards?
i would ask at modacity, but i have been banned for an unjust cause

why doesnt someone just create a random map, with about walking 5 feet, and the map is won, and name that a20, and see if it loads after a10. and i think the a, b, c, d stands for difficulty, not the difficulties like easy and hard, but ai difficulty

No, it's probably enemy density (amount of enemy).
e.g:

a = low density
b + c = medium density
d = high density

i dont think it really means anything, except maybe the day it occurs in. i still think its just that they had panned alot of levels and filled up a10-a90 so they went on to b10-b90. thats a bit of a stretch, but look at the quality of the game when it was first shown off. and goldeneye 007 did have 20 PLAYABLE levels, along with a messed up one that was left in the game. imagine how many were cut out

I wonder what each level was going to be about. I remember Bungie saying that b40 was the first level they started working on, but that doesn't mean that the rest werent being worked on as well.

If i am right, the ui determines what level is after it. For example is only knows a10,a30 and a50.
If you managed to edit it somehow, it might work

I'm working on a UI actually, which is why I'm interested in how the game knows which level is which, because I want to add a feature allowing multipule campaigns in a later version of the UI, many of my questions in my questions topic: http://forum.halomaps.org/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=23764 are related to my UI project.
