How do I open maps other than tutorial in Saipen? I want to add AI to a map and I cant open maps except for tutorial.

EDIT: Oh and my other question is that how do I compile maps in Tool?

Thanks.

Download HEK+ at http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=2289 (that's the most recent version) and use it to rip the .scenario file from the map. Once you have the .scenario in your tags folder, open it up in Sapien and add the AI.

Good luck!

How do I compile the map with Tool, though?

when i start Tool it closes immediately, saying like "Couldn't read map file something something something"

Do you have to make it so confusing?

No, he's doing something very common. Your clicking on tool.exe. you need to got to windows/system32 and copy cmd.exe. Place this in the Halo CE folder. Now click on it. You should get a prompt with a black background.

WRONG! Don't copy it, make a shortcut to it and change the start in folder to your Halo Custom Edition folder.

I think I know more than you. Please don't be telling me how things work like that. Shortcuts don't work. At least for Windows XP.

i just go manually to the folder starting at run>cmd.exe, why bother with links and stuff...
but if you want so, you need to copy cmd.exe and put it in the halo main folder, and clikc CMD, clicking tool.exe will never work
after that just type tool.exe and the command, there is totally nothing difficult about this...

shortcuts work if you modify the start in preference to the directory of haloce (using windows xp); but still don't say things like "WRONG!". it pisses people off even if you're right.

anyways back to the point of the topic:
I'd google "how to use command prompt" before you tried map making but tool++ is a good option.

EDIT:
yes coping does work, sorry. but shortcuts seem easier.

Copying works, but its not recommended, because it will move one of the original system files

I extracted the sidewinder.scenario file with HEK+
Then I opened it in Saipen and followed a tutorial on how to add AI
I downloaded some elite tags and put in major
There were no elites in Saipen but I did set the respawn & move-to areas.
I saved my scenario in Saipen as "sidewinderai.scenario"
I downloaded tool ++ just now and when compiling of sidewinderai.scenario completed I got this:

Couldn't read map file './toolbeta.map'

file_open('tags\characters\elite\elite major\elite major.actor') error 0x00000003 'The system cannot find the path specified. '

couldn't open actor tag 'elite major.actor'.

Note: If at any time, while adding tags, it gives you the message:

Not all tags could be added to the palette. Please contact your nearest Bungie programmer for assistance.

Or something like that, then you will know something is wrong. Open up the debug.txt file found in the same folder as Sapien, and scroll to the bottom, and find all the file_open errors, and re-extract those tags, from other maps, such as a10.

Well then, rip them. Or download every single tag pack on the website. Your choice.

This is what's stopping me from doing work. Gamma, how can I fix the errors in the debug.txt file? Most of my maps I downloaded are protected, so I can't rip any tags.

Yes you can copy the cmd.exe file to any folder, but you shouldn't. There should only be one version of the cmd.exe file in the path. This is because if there is an update to the command file then you will not have different versions on your PC. You are better off making a shortcut to open a command prompt window in the folder you wish.

HELP. I downloaded a tutorial on how to setup tool, and I did it correctly and Tool did the same thing as before and Tool ++ always gives me errors. I even tried to run it on admin and it just crashed a second later.

Okay this time I followed an easier tutorial, but when I tried to compile bitmaps it just types my HCE root folder again.

Tool++ does not work for bitmaps. The only thing I use it for is for building cache files. Everything else, I do it by hand.

Gah. Open up Sapien devmode, by pressing the tile button. Type in the following:

radiosity_quality 0

Then,

radiosity_start

Three numbers should start counting down on the top left of the screen. When they reach exactly zero and no more, type in:

radiosity_save

Dnun dun dun! Your map will be revealed in lightning.

p.s: Tuaha, you totally pwned me on that Halo match. I blame it on lag....
