Well, this is the thread for a mod I had an idea about. The Flood Campaign. The idea is simple, you replay some Halo levels with a unique perspective, that of a Flood. I decided on this after I saw the lack of mods where you played as a Flood.

Well, the levels you will be playing in, or rather re-playing, will be 343 Guilty Spark, Library, Two Betrayals, Keyes and The Maw. Now, dont think think this is just a mod where you play as a Flood instead of MC, because its not. You do NOT play the levels exactly as they were like a Flood.

Idwa 'Ohtudee: There are all the stock forms of flood in the game, however, there may be one more new type. That is under high debate however. For MP, simple answer, engine restrictions. However, this could be over-come with Open Sauce, this is an idea for anyone outt here willing to try it.
John - 94th P. Division: 22) Is there any plans for a full scale mod? That seems ethical in reason, and very cool, and unique
Idwa 'Ohtudee: A full scale mod? It has taken us a very long time to get one map out there, and get semi-decent tag-set out. I don't want to even think about an over-haul mod.

Idwa 'Ohtudee: Yes we will have custom dialogue for the Gravemind.
John - 94th P. Division: 24) When is a trailer going to be available?
Idwa 'Ohtudee: Estimated for August 15th, it could be a bit later. After this we will release other trailers too.
Additional Question(Added 29/10/10):
Q: Will the mod be open sourced?
A: Yes the mod will be open sourced, the community will be free to use them. However, after v1.0, or when we have the time, we will be releasing several tutorials on what we did and how we did it. So that anyone who wishes to actually learn how, can do so.

nice, this would be a good campaign...though i read your other post about playing as a flood and the arms falling off and such, and what if you imported the base model in 3dsmax or gmax etc. and place the bones and such and export and compile =) but forgetting about ~damaged permutations so when you use the biped it doesnt lose it arms...so realy its just like rigging a cyborg or MC biped but with the flood model?

"Hey guys, let's make a version of Halo from every characters perspective. Why not one of the marines? The pilot of the escape pod? Cortana? 343 Guilty Spark? Captain Keyes? One of the engineers? The setinals too!"

Looks like another 'different perspective' project that will never get finished.

good point but dont be so harsh on him...for all you know he might finish it and prove your wrong... but i do agree with nugget there is alot of campaigns that were never finished. =( thats why the MC side is better. and for a marines perspective; wouldnt it almost be the origonal campaign? except from 343 it would be nothing really..... like 343 would be the last level

An idea for 1st person view would be only having 1 hand on a weapon. That would make it seem more... well...flood-ish..

=D someone remembered thats not my xfire friend remembered my map! though you do know that keyes assault is a huge sp map not a campaign... right?

anyways you should put a melee animation in it like when i bump possess a flood and i walk up to n enemy it melee's by default but my screen moves around and sways showing the melee animation but i dont see my arms or gun swaying in the air...you should try making that =)

I remember the topic agian, the one with the limbs, kinda late but
it was about flood without the weird armor that the flood seem to change too, ( wtf flood can change titantium to them? ) so it was a more correct model in my opinion, he was like he can't get the limbs to fall off, so maybe he released them by now, that was the only thing that kept him from finishing it.

This is gonna be very interesting, keep us posted about this, and if you ever need a HEK guy or machinima expert, i'm here (good lord, the covenant campaign is the lamest project i worked on)

No, I have the scripting covered, just need help with the Animating, modelling. As for Nugget, I'll get this done, even if I'm the last person working on it.

Custom Flood models if someone can make them.

I can script, and Polamee add me on xfire, warlordkillsall.
Mythril can model-ish, and texture. If this is wrong, just tell me, I'll be on later, about 4 hours time probably.

Anyways, animator, badly needed. Modeller, not so much. Mainly fp anims for new melee, weapon holding e.t.c. Conteact me on xfire, I'll be on in about 4 hours time.

P.S: If your nosy the reason I cant get on xfire at moment is because I'm in school.

there have been multiple attempts at making improved new flood models, just look around, it will save you alot of time... i can't give you a link cus i don't save links for 3dmodels, so you'll have to look yourself though

EDIT: look at the biped thread on the top of the list, one example of the new ones can be found on the very first page

if that happens you would have to start over each time, so that's not a good idea except if you like people being frustrated cus they can't finish the single player level lol

the 343 script is ok, but it's so linear or something, it just feels to plain when i read it for some reason... oh and i suppose infect means just killing? cus they don't turn into flood that fast =P from what i understand from the books looks like it takes 1 day to make it a functional flood body since infection from the infection form

Ok, to put you guys into perspective, I'l add this to the first post in a few. The Flood operate in a 'Hive' mind state. You play each level as a seperate combat form. As your in different areas. The 'Hivemind' state back up this ability. Again, my other post.

E1: Almost forgot to answer the question lol. Well, you play each level after or before MC ahs gone through the area, although I might throw in Mc somehwere just for ambience. Well, what Nexus means, or what I'm guessing is, you die at the end of the campaign, not each level. And, I'll leave that one for you guys to discuss.

maybe to make the level easyer you can press q to infect a dead biped so it will turn into a flood. (elites are elite combat, humans are human combat, jackals and grunts are carrier)

You play as a Combat form, and to make the levels easier I have already made several adjustments, and am also making in the progress of making them.

On the note of balancing issues, again I need help with the getting rid of the model permutations for ~damaged for Flood forms, unless of course you guys want that to stay in?

well, it's realistic and halo1ish, hell even halo 2 and halo 3 like, i don't see why you need to remove it, if your arms get shot off, too bad! =D

its quite easy. go to model_collision_geometry then go to regions, and uncheck all of the checks in there and delete the ~damaged permutations in each one.

I have a feeling that this is kinda the same as the covenant side, but its still cool. 1 thing, its still weird, flood have no brain, they're more like creatures that are strong because of their numbers, not because of their invidual strenght, so it would be like playing as a very minor character. If you do it, try adding some kind of flood hud, with, instead of visor outlines like halo 3, some kind of floodish edges, kinda like how the screen looks when the gravemind talks to you in halo 3.

I have no idea how the hud looked at that moment in halo 3, but yea i agree that it should look floodish, they are infected afterall =P
the brain is actually the infection form, if you have read the books, then you know that the only reason that they are dumb a **** is that they are still learning from the brain of the host, they are intelligent as **** though, at some points of the book they seem very intelligent

I'll make some eye candy when I have the map, prepare for heavy ass explosions and flying limbs =3

Well, HUD determines on this: If we get someone to make HUDs, and so far the only people who asked to help are BeachParty and Polamee.

Update:

Limbs don't fall off, BUG REPORT (for the fans that know the episode from RvB about Halo 3 Beta)

New sounds added (Credit to Cheerio for converting the sounds)


How about this style of shield bar? Halo 3 Elite shield bar, but it comes closes to what could be a flood hud, just an idea
(I was yellow in the screeshot to make a elite commander screenshot, i'm usually RED!!!)

Update 2: I have added in the 3rd bsp, and play-tested the level I have done so far, and so far, I got owned by a banshee. And, no errors.

Again, again, again. We need help from an animator right now. Mainly for fp anims and animations for entering a vehicle. You might be needed to do more though. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
