stupid hek+ wont open ANY map i try to load into it. i have tried bloodgulch,a10,floodgulch and a whole pile more. but every time i try to load a map i get this.

(note, this is a10.map's error message)

The output char buffer is too small to contain the decoded characters, encoding 'Unicode (UTF-8)' fallback 'System.Text.DecoderReplacementFallback'.
Parameter name: chars

Failed to open map file

thanks,

Either try reinstalling halo or halo ce ( which ever directory your opening your map from) or switchap directories

Is your halo official or cracked?

Halo CE won't make a difference, because the .map files are all the same regardless of version. All the "crack" is, if you mean the No-CD patch, is just an earlier .exe of the game (v1.01, I believe)... The files are still the same.

Reinstalling the game also wouldn't make a difference, unless you're reinstalling Halo CE.

If anything, make sure you're opening the maps from Halo CE, not from Halo: Combat Evolved (the PC -- unmoddable -- version).

If you're opening the right map files, HEK+ has been reinstalled just to make sure, and it still doesn't work? I say it's a helpless cause. Sorry~

MF Boom is right. Also, perhaps you should delete all your hardrive. Start fresh with the PC, sometimes the excessive amount of info messed me up! Hope it helps!

^Bad advice. Reset your entire PC just cuz of one application? Not a very sensible idea. Try this: If you're on Vista or 7, set it in XP compatibility mode.

Hadn't thought about compatibility mode. Another idea is to run it as Administrator; sometimes that works too.

In properties, under the compatibility tab, select "Disable Desktop Composition"

This game only works on Windows, be it 98SE, ME, XP, Vista, or 7. I doubt anyone still uses 95, and NT was a flop.

And, while I can't vouch for anything earlier than XP, it has no problems with XP, Vista, nor 7. There are differences in how it can be run, but they still run.
