I am planning on a map that has 7200 polygons. Is this WAY too many? I need to decide how many polygons I am making with this map. It will be 2 1/2 square miles.

nah that's fine, in fact, i think you should add more detail lol.. some maps are like 40000 polies.. but they're at the top end..

Nah. That's a low amount of poly's, actually. Mine has more than that, and it's only Blood Gulch sized. You won't be anywhere near going over the limit with that; maybe of the way to the limit, at most.

Hell, check the scouter level on Coldsnap. I guarantee it's over nine-thousand.

also portals can be used to create much more high-poly maps.

if it's single player, just go thaw out all your energy in detaills and poly's and cut them up in several BSP's

Not that smart, seeing as if it's SP, you'll have AIs to render as well.
