So you're the selfish dickweed that is slowing things down for everyone else by trying to get around the 1 file at a time download limit. You self centered little brat. That policy was put in place not to inconvenience you but to insure that everyone gets a fair share of the bandwidth I am willing to spend my money on supplying you all these free files. FREE Files. FREE as in it doesn’t cost you a damn thing, as in I am the one paying for every single byte of bandwidth you drain from my servers. And all you can think about is how to get around a policy that makes it fair for everyone. How special you must think you are by taking bandwidth, which I pay for, away from everyone else when you download more than one file at a time. You don’t have a right to my bandwidth you only have a right to use it as I dictate. It’s all about you isn’t it? No one else is every going to want a fast download from the limited bandwidth I have? Noooo….. It’s Just for you right? WRONG! You disgust me you self important little thief you thoughtless malcontent, you "I have to get around a fair policy because I want to" person...

Oh... was I typing out loud? Sorry never mind...

Yea there are ways around it but only one file per IP per server.

Maybe thats' why my download have been a bit slugish.
It all depends on the time of day. Anytime between 4:00PM EST and 1:00AM EST the servers tend to be fully saturated and your download speed will completely depend on the how many people and what their max speed is. When it gets saturated every new download thread subtracts from everyone else.

You can see the server utilization by doing to http://files1.halomaps.org/ and if they are currently flatlined then your download will be slower than if they were not.

Also I wasn't actually mad. I was just making a point in the only way people seem to take notice.

I can't belive someone would do this though. Not only does it ruin your policy but it also takes longer.
In all seriousness most people don't realize that there is a limit to the bandwidth I have. They think of this site like they do of FilePlanet or other big file sharing websites which have much, much more bandwidth than I have.

The website polls each of the file servers and sends the person to the one with less people downloading. This balances the traffic and gives each person the chance for best bandwidth I have available. I instituted the one file at a time policy precisely because the bandwidth is limited and felt that it would give people the quickest download and share it evenly across all people.

I know there are ways to bypass it; it was not designed to be a strict control it was put in place to keep basically honest people honest. The technical limit that is possible is three files are a time, one from each server. Each FTP server will only allow one download thread per IP and even at that people have used IP proxies and a multi-thread FTP downloader to bypass that limit. I am not trying to be that strict on it and it is not worth my time to stop the few real malcontents intent on bypassing the policy. Gee, they spent hours trying to find ways around it when they could have just downloaded the files in the same time. Golly gee they accomplished something really great and got free files maybe 2 miuntes faster how special: NOT!

As I said the system is there to keep basically honest people honest and to try to offer the best performance for each person that I can. It is just something that many seem to not understand.

You should be grateful that Dennis made halomaps.org if he had'nt we would have to be hosting are maps models ETC. on filefront or fileplanet and, Dennis is the nicest guy I've ever known.

Also, for any other "thoughtless malcontent" people, his little method fails epicly, the server simply cannot handle a person downloading more than one file from the site, it cancels the previous download saying it cannot connect to the server.

This thread now has the seal of Epic Fail.
However Dennis now owns the seal of Epic Win.

For the record: I am NOT mad or upset with BCPeephole for bypassing the 1 at a time policy and he is welcome here in the forum and to download files. He was just the unfortunate one to bring up the 1 file at a time policy and it gave me an opportunity to make a point about the policy in a very noticeable way. Anyone who reads this thread will now remember why that policy exists.

I can firmly attest that I was not mad or upset with anyone when I wrote that post. It was specifically designed to intimidate and explain to people in what seems to be the only way you understand why the 1 file at a time policy is there.

The final line “Oh... was I typing out loud? Sorry never mind...” should have been a clue to the astute that in fact I was not being serious.

Nothing in my post had any problems with the profanity filter. My father was a truck driver for 47 years and although I never heard him use profane language, his friends swore like... well like truck drivers. I was a good mimic until I grew out of it. Believe me, I can swear with the best of them but it has more impact when your insults are delivered with proper language.

Now I am being serious. This is typical of your self-centered view of the world. I have explained in the past that the reason for the 1 file at a time download is so that everyone can share the available bandwidth and not hog it all for themselves.

Developing a proxy application to get around it is exactly why your behavior has multiple times, caused you to be grounded and not allowed to use your computer. It is also why you have several times been banned from the forum. You think that everything on the internet is something to be hacked and any restrictions real or imagined gotten around. I gather that it doesn’t even enter into your small mind that by hogging all the available bandwidth you are impeding others ability to share what I offer.

You are the child that sneaks into the kitchen and eats the cake while people are out in the yard aren’t you? Once again you have shown me the worst in human nature. I am disappointed but no longer surprised by your unscrupulous actions. It is because of people like you that I sometimes think of shutting it all down and buying a new car. E3PO you disgust me.
