Please check out my latest map.

It's a racetrack in a large quarry.

You can download the map from here : http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?pg=3&fid=4593

I'd really appreciate feedback/critisism if you feel the urge :)

I have a dedicated server that will be running the map 24/7 for a while. The dedicated server IP is 81.19.217.203:2307.

Have fun and don't forget to give me some crit :)

What would be really cool is if you made the players Mario Kart styled MC's. Big heads, bright colorful armor, and small karts. I know the weapons would be possible too. That would be really cool on this kind of map.

on the pit of fire... theres a teleporter that brings u outside the map and makes u fall.... Y?

Ah, that's interesting. I uploaded the map and associated files a while ago, but I forgot to add a release date to the readme file. I waited a while and the map didn't appear, so I assumed that it had been rejected because all the submission criteria hadn't been fulfilled. In the meantime, I found a couple of bugs (such as the errant teleporter) and fixed them. As the map hadn't been posted, I uploaded the fixed version again (with a release date). Seems the older version got included instead of the fixed version.

The map is still playable, but avoid jumping into the fire pit :)

The fixed version of the map won't be accepted now, because I didn't give it a different name or version number. The reasons being that (a) I didn't think the first map had been accepted and (b) the changes to the map were very minor.

It's a shame, because the later zip also contains a couple of screenshots, an extended readme and a couple of custom gametypes.

Dennis : Is it possible to replace the old file with the newer file? Please :)

Nicely done! This is the best map I have seen designed for race. Maybe ATV's would be an added bonus? Good job! Love the log crossing. Too bad the lower part isnt made of ice to make a drifting slick track.

Vehicles
---------

I toyed with different vehicle types, including some custom hogs...

http://i445.photobucket.com/albums/qq178/blackcryptclan/multihogs.gif

I'm fairly new to map making (and 3D design) and still have a lot to learn. I don't know how to make vehicles fully yet and didn't want to include something that didn't work 100% with the map.

Ice
---
The lower part of the track (the speedway track) was a suggestion from one of the testers. I chose not to use too much ice in the map because it didn't fit with the general environment - hot and dusty desert canyons don't have too much ice in them. Perhaps the next map will be in a cold place :)

That animated gif is awesome.
Oh, and what would be awesome is, for the paint shop thing, you scripted it so that when you went in it would swap your warthog for a colorful one.

Make the hogs slightly smaller and give MC's bigger heads. That will equal the best race map halo has seen.

I can, every time.

I only played the map twice, and I eventually got over it once. The turn right before it is what messes me up.

Let up on the accelerator before the turn and "curve" into it, then push forward as you go and actually steer instead of admiring the view.

Thanks for all the support from everyone.

Some people have spotted a couple of things that I feel that I should address, but this means an updated version of the map, which will be coming very soon.

1) Several people have mentioned the renegade teleporter that is in the firepit. It shouldn't be there, but it doesn't really affect gameplay. Who on earth would deliberately jump into a firepit - it's never gonna end nicely!

2) Sometimes the hogs wheels can get 'hooked' on the edge of the track - not whilst driving though - it happens if the hog is somersaulting and the wheels happen to catch the edge of the track. To get a hog off: Shoot the hog with a rocket launcher so as to push the hog in the opposite direction that it is facing.

3) For some bizarre reason there is an invisible 'wall' in the tower where the big window looks out towards the big hill. The wall geometry is not in the map! I have no idea how it happened and could not find it to fix it. I rebuilt the tower and the wall is no longer there.

4) A fair few people have said that there are too many rocket launchers in the map.

Here's a list of fixes/changes already implemented...

- removal of teleport in the firepit.
- rebuilt tower to remove invisible wall.
- updated entrance to the secret area :)
- added player clipping in the secret area to stop cheats nade jumping!
- removed rocket launchers closest to the start grid where the majority of spawns are located.

If you guys find anything else that you think should/needs to be fixed, please tell me now so that I can include them in the next (and final) update of the map.

The hogs are placed away from the starting grid so as not to block those already racing after the hogs respawn.

Like I said when I was playing with you, it needs something to set itself apart from other race maps like yoyorast. Add some color, get rid of the default warthogs and add something new and more fun looking while still keeping it looking like halo. Maybe a smaller one seated warthog?

I don't know who made these, but I changed the skins - only room for 1 driver and 1 passenger. They were in the map, but there seems to be something going on with them that makes the driver impervious to rockets, so I took them out. They look pretty cool in the map. I've not made any vehicles and I'd rather concentrate on the map modelling at the moment.

If someone would like to provide a custom vehicle for inclusion (credit would obviously be given in heaps) then I would love to put them in. Give me a shout if you would like to contribute a vehicle to the updated map.
