What did Bungie use to POPULATE and, CREATE there maps? I've always wanted to know this. Like Bloodgulch, Beavercreek, Sidewinder ETC.

I think they modeled it on 3ds Max 6, because that is what the HEK tutorial tells you to use.

How did they get Sapien ETC. If those were created when Gearbox created Halo Custom Edition. Bungie had made Halo in 2001 I think. The tools were released when Halo Custom Edition was released right?

Bungie made HEK. They used HEK to make the game.

I don't think a studio would go and say, "Yeah, these are the exact tools we used to make this game. Just for you curious people out there."
It was probably a much more powerful version of the HEK that they used, and probably not the same programs that we're familiar with.

They also used Maya.

The Hek tutorial was obviously made by Gearbox.

They were also able to make recorded animations, somehow.

Bungie used the same tools we use but without the restrictions.
They use:
-3Ds Max
-Photoshop (whatever version was current for that date)
-Guerilla (did I spell that right?
-Sapien

-3ds max
-zbrush
-maya
-sapien
-Guerilla
-Photoshop
-mudbox
-some custom plugins for 3ds max
-face poser
-match moving tools
the list goes on.

How Bungie designed tags, Guerilla, and how they used them.

They were able to make it because they had the code to make it. Then they stripped out the ability do that and released it along with other unusable features.

Its not encrypted, its just not in there at all, or blocked out.

Thats why we have hacked HEK programs like Kornman00 or Ahobo.

Both programs have more unlocked features. But some things we still wont ever get.

Then stop asking questions lazy. If it is "too much reading" then do without the knowledge.

TLDR, My annoying bandito, TLDR.

I found the article quite interesting, this explains why recorded animations code wasn't added.
I thought they were just being stingy with it at first :P
