It's the Halo 3 Sniper.. not the Halo 1 one..
The one of Halo 1 IS indeed longer..

I see a problem with the Halo 3 one. The Barrel as no areas for the Hot Gas and Pressure to be let out to cool and prevent overheating of the gun.

Third person models don't have much detail. Most of the stuff you see is in the texture. In FP, there's a lot more detail.

I've textured the Spartan Laser H3B ported model.

and i flushed windows 7, build 7000 crashed on me too much, i guess build 7600 is better but meh i reverted back to vista lolz

You guys should try to make some new/customized weapons. IE: How Halo 3 ODST has modified SMGs and M6Cs, you should try making a stripped down sniper, assault rifle, or shotgun. You know, something lighter weight, smaller, easier to carry, and specialized for the situation with suppressors and stuff. Something useful for an ODST.

Just my two cents. :P

Texture looks very low-res. Try painting in some scratches.

I'd never thought of saying it to you, but thanks, that's really helpfull since i always made scratches by drawing them on (ugh) never thought of doing it that way.
I'm going to texture the H3 sniper sharp made and try it on that

In all fairness... ODSTs carry any weapon they can get their hands on, although they prefer using human light/heavy antiarmor weapons. The only modyfications i can see being done for smgs would be slightly longer barrels and(if I were using them) barrel clips of 200 rounds or more. As far as the sniper is concerned... yes the barrel is shorter, yes there are no vents for hot gases but the reason for this is that with all the extra pressure being placed behind the round it becomes much more effective at long range armor penetration. The spartan laser looks awesome although bulky and quite possibly the most useless weapon possible at close range. Any news yet on the ODSTs personal Rocket Launcher?

Considered, all weapons will have laser units, only activated by modelling it in in FP, 3p gets collision problems if i don't make them projectiles, wich doesn't work as well as modelling the laser in.

for the rest, I already ODST-ised the AR calling it a MA5C SOPMOD, rail is added ontop, camo texture, silencer, laser unit, and scope ontop simelar to the BR scope.

Well I'll save the talking for pics later on, i might still have a render of the sopmod somewhere

Sniper will keep it's Oracle N-Variant Scope though, it's an icon.

You need to work on poly placement. Most of the polys are in the scope and magazine. And you have no details in the main hull of the gun.

Theres no bolt, No detail on the body and that thing under the barrel is way too huge, Take your time and don't rush something if you get bored or anxious. just take a break and come back later

And what version of max are you using? Because max 8 disables Aero, so my Windows 7 looks like crap when I model, which I don't like.

yea it's ripped, my only concern was uvwing it and adding my own detaills to it, but it's a low res 512 512 like most h3b textures =/

i'm adding the "damaged" feeling to every texture because i dislike the "new" textures used in retail, though i'm only doing it for the smaller arms, saving it up for later
i need more practise, i'm looking at disaster's AR for inspiration lol

hmm yea i'm using 2010, you can download the trial and get a hurr hurr to make it working full version if you'd want
