Anybody have one? Like in the Philippines? With rice fields and stuff? With the trees and forests(we don't have too much jungles like in Africa, forests are different from jungles)? Without the forerunner stuff?

...like in Crysis?

It'd be better if the trees are part of the BSP, though, but if someone has palm trees(scenery), could you please throw that in too?

it could be done but the terrain would have to be extremely simple. ricce patties no big deal but the forest part..i think id model the trunks into the bsp, add simple branches and use a large plane/s with transparency for the canopy...the areas above and around the forest would have to be clipped to make this work as the canopy would look retarded veiwed from the side or above.
then use traditional tree models to ease the transistion from forest to open ground.

Shellsock looks awesome from above.

What I thought when I saw this thread, was something like Farcry, even though the game wasn't that great, I thought of the overall island feel.

Won't look good in halo anyways :(
go buy crysis ^^

Meh, even if I haven't played it nor seen it much yet, I'm pretty sure I already know the environment. I'm just a couple of miles west from where it takes place...

And besides, my mod won't made for graphics, but for originality. The only thing I'll say about it is Project Phi.

Second one looks pretty good, and the first one is in Vietnam anyways.

Anybody have something that looks closer to these:

Mt. Pinatubo eruption:

That's why the ashfall reached europe.

Both of them looks like Vietnam.

Nah, no volcano, just wanted to inform you guys.

Yeah, looks like. And the second one looks less like Vietnam if it is Vietnam.

Wow funny this thread is here. I am trying to work on some tropical scenery just because I was going to make a Crysis styled mod. What I really want to see in a map is something like the grass being EVERYWHERE for example. Also, having tons of shrubs to hide in is what I would like. It's the undergrowth that makes Crysis amazing as far as a tropical setting goes. That would have to be focussed on heavily to make a good tropical map.

There's a very, very small map is called desert island, I think.

Yeah, that's one reason the natives wouldn't be beat by the 16th century Spaniards.

Still though, I'm looking for something to suit the trilogy's linear gameplay style. Except it isn't supposed to have forerunner stuff in it.

I will take a break from making interactive water for my game and make a map like that. I have been wanting to make something like crysis for awhile.

it was hair wasn't it? lol

it'd be really easy to make patches of grass as scenery, making them low poly enough to be used in a field would be the tricky part

Question. Is there a limit to the NUMBER of a single tag you can have in a map. For example. Can you have a ton of ferns strewn everywhere on your map or will that cause too much lag? I assume it would when you are driving a vehicle or shooting but I am not sure.

Yeah, the more scenery you have the more chance there will be lag, so if you made grass scenery, and covered the entire BSP in grass, then there'd be a good chance it might lag for players.

the bigger I make the grass model span however, the less it will lag right.

Here's my layout I am planning as of now. It is not an inland tropical setting however. And yes there is a mesh smooth on this as you can see by the sky

Actually, I don't know, if you have one big grass scenery that encompasses the entire map that would probably cause lag too, just because of the sheer size of it.

No no. Multiple larger patches of grass is what I mean. Just make grass patches larger. Sorry I didn't clarify on that.

it's not the quantity of scenery elements its the total poly count being added...what you're thinking of is tag space, using multiples of a single tag still only counts as one tag but the poly count is still cumulative ..amirite?

No, it will not. It's only rendering one object now, when it could be rendering a hundred. There's a difference. What he needs to do for the grass if model it all out over the model in max, then export it to halo as one big scenery file.

I'd still have to make my grass have almost no bends in it. This doesn't bode well for tropical style grass that needs to sort of drape over.

What is the max poly count by the way?

Is there a certain layout type you want, or just a Crysis styled map basically?

Oh, sorry, reply came much too late, but something Crysis-styled yet linear is what I'm looking for. It's possible to have nonlinear gameplay in the CE engine, but it'l take much too long.

Remake.

I think for sure that would be waaaaaaaaaaay too high poly. Even if I was to make a lower poly version of that it would be rediculous.

Man Haven't been to this thread in a while. Someone should seriously do something towards something like this. If no one wants to, I will see if the clan I am in wants to do it. I think I could make a half decent BSP for something SIMILAR to this. Placing scenery would suck though.

It wouldn't work. Just look at all the trees. Halo would have a heart attack just trying to load the map.

CLEAR!

lol. True though!

If i was to make a big map like that, the game couldn't handle the BSP I'll bet let alone the scenery.

What if it was scaled down quite a bit? Smaller cliffs. Less scenery. Simple grasses. I think it could possibly work like that.

Wow. Never knew this thread was still alive. Oh, and don't forget the fact that you can have several BSPs in one level.
