Hi I'm pretty new to mapping and can model levels. I can get my models ingame and do some Sapien work. I want to learn and get better at making maps because it's really fun for me. I think if I join a team it will make me better and help me learn things. Here is something I'm currently working on.

Any comments would be nice and if you would like to work with me please mention so.
Thanks.

I would suggest working by yourself first. Work by yourself; learn the ropes of modeling and texturing and population.

If you're just starting out, I would try everything first, see how you like it, and then begin to refine whatever skill you like the most. Don't limit yourself to just modelling.

texturing AND modeling? hey, hey calm down, i mod since 3 years and still haven't touched PS

most likely because the frikkin' TRNTZ dont work

I've been modeling and modding for 4. When I first started, I like modeling more, and thats what ive been doing ever since. Until recently, I've been doing some of texturing, and getting a bit better at it. I suggest starting out and learning both.

I'm not new to modeling. I have modeled before I started doing Halo stuff. I already have fiddled with other thigs like photoshop and want to continue working with modeling and design. I already know how to work the basics with Sapien. Hopefully once I finish uving this section of the map I can get it ingame and show some more pictures.

I just got a new comp so nothing is on this other than a fresh max and ce with some other stuff. I want to finish this section soon which I'm working on now to better present myself.

to me, modeling & texturing is pointless without the skill to unwrap.
Me i chose texturing because i was skilled with Photoshop already before i started modding. before i started modding i did GFXing. Ive had tonnes of expereince but to me, texturing is different to GFXing but it had to do with Photoshop or with images so i choose texturing, i got better & improved, Then after i knew that i was good at texturing, i learned modeling, then i was pissed cos i found out u cant just throw a texture onto a model & ittl be fited perfectly, so then i learned unwrapping. Then i learned to populate, then after HUDing, after that i learned FP animation but i found out that there isnt much 3p animators around here so i did that, then i started to do particles after that i learned scripting.

So overall i can do:
Texturing, modeling, Unwrapping, UVW mapping (vital part if u were to texture maps), populating, HUDs, FP animation (not soo good), 3p animation, Particles (mainly bitmaps, cos i hate tagging) & scripting.

but this is how i went along. You can pick a totally different path, ive only been into modding for 7 months, I learn quick & adapt. & im in 3 teams at the moment. You can choose what you want to do, but with modeling, texturing & unwrapping wouldnt be best to do, because when those 3 are together they are good but it can be very difficult, I texture all the time, i model sometimes & i unwrap sometimes too. What ever you choose if what will determine what team you will be in, because every team has Needs & wants, since you can model you would make into a team in where a modeler is needed. So pick what areas of modding you will do, because they all have different relsults... Good luck
(wow thats the longest post ive made so far!!)

EDIT: btw, this is in my opinion.

I want to fix a few things in Sapien such as the teleporters and I'll compile a quick test map for everyone to be able to run around in it.

You have some talent. Continue to pursue this talent please.

I suggest working by yourself. You will learn on your own pace and be able to do whatever you want too. Teams will just drag you down and most teams never get anything done.

Thankyou Disaster. I still would like to work with a team though. I've been working by myself for a while and want to try out a team experience.

Like I said though I fixed some things in Sapien and got the map rared. Here's the download.

Looks pretty good man.

As Disaster said, work by yourself for a while to get use to the engine. Or work with a partner on some maps or something, kinda like what disaster and I did for a while. If you want a team, you should show some of your older models and what your more capable of. If your capable of this, I would suggest practicing a little more, and then I might have something for you to do on my team if you wish.

I just did like a modeling test and this is the outcome after an hour and a half. It was sappose to be something of forerunner.

There's a few things I dislike and want to fix before I uv it. It need more segments in the curvature of the base. I also don't like how the top of the barriers came out. The geometry there doesn't seem to flow well. Any further comments would be nice too.

My xfire is dormouse17.

Your forerunner could use a little more polishing, but definately better than most new people here. Good job.

Do it on your own. Not very many mapping teams ever follow thru with there projects and your work is lost or time wasted. By the way. You are not new to this as your model is good and shows you have experience. If you can do that, you can do everything else that is required to make and populate maps.
It's amazing, people here were so rude to me when I started, that I almost stopped doing this all together. It's just a hobbie but something I really like doing as well. I don't remember, ever, getting a compliment on any of my maps and still have not to this day. (2 years) I really have done everything on my own without encouragment and without help. It is possible to do this without anyone it just may take a little longer but in the end it is something you can say you did all on your own. Now All the haters can do is shut there mouths for lack of another humiliated soul to torture.

uneven you and a couple others are excluded from that statement. You guys have helped me get over the majors that I could not figure on my own.:) you guy's are cool

I forgot all about this thread. I started working with TM on their new huge project that is awsome
that I didn't have much time to work on this map. I plan to continue working on this and hopefully ill have some new pics up soon. If anyone has any ideas for the map please say something.

Last time I had contact with you was when I told you I wasn't interested in your project. I never even was told about a BR. All you did was show me the maps you were working on and I declined in helping you.
