Hey all, I've been thinking the last few days of attempting to make the Plasma Launcher from the reach beta... I'd use it to test my modelling and texturing skills, but I was wondering if it's possible to make the proper projectile? It's simple enough, right?... a homing plasma grenade, essentially. But is that even possible?

I myself have just a tiny bit of experience with making tags, so that's why I'm asking. Thoughts? Worth doing?

Definately possible. Look at the plasma pistol tags to examine how charging works, then make it fire 1 round a second, and make it spew on discharge of the overcharged projectile for 4 seconds. The projectile would basically be a needle with a plasma grenade model.

It would not work properly. Discharge fires 1 round every 1/30th of a second. It would be firing the projectiles way too fast.

Not to mention you can't have it fire only one round if you charge just a little.

I could use the model anyways.

It would work in single player the same way the fuel rod did... An AI only weapon that is relatively powerful and doesn't act like the ones in other games...

I could use it for one specific purpose... Anti-Air... It can be done perfectly with AI.

Although many people probably won't need the model because the weapon can't be made accurately, that has never stopped anyone before. About 40% of the weapons I find made by this community are not accurate replications. No one complains...

The SP thing would work though, if you set the actor_variant's behavior correctly. But then you'd n ever get to use it :(

Yes, it is always sad when you don't get to use a weapon, but it is a fun weapon to go up against...

I've already tried making the Plasma Launcher to work right. It won't work, since the way it charges and how it fires the projectiles.

However, I already have it made for single player AI-only use...

For actual player use, one could simplify it to a plasma pistol... secondary would be a duplicate trigger that spews. It may not fire at the right rate, but it's still the same concept. And when uncharged, it would fire a single shot.
Not an exact replica, not really very close, but essentially the same thing.

I can't even count how many serious replications I've downloaded that were not very accurate...

I tried to make the plasma repeater. Only thing I can't do is the reload to release heat, and it's hard to get the heat to sync with the rate of fire...

I seriously don't recommend for you to try this when you are starting of modelling, because of the shape. I can see it turning out very boxy, and weird.

Yeah, follow the moddb tutorial inkscape posted, and make the beretta. Hone your skills first, then try Covenant style weapons.

I would if I had 3ds max and time. I am finishing college, got a lot of work to do.

And this computer doesn't like 3ds max anymore, should be getting AlienWare Laptop very soon now because mum has lent me the rest of the money I need, just need to order it.

There is nothing special that you need to do. Just load up gmax/3ds max done.

So how does this weapon work?
It charges and fires plasma nades?
The longer you charge the more nades, to a max of 4?
It only has 1 magazine? (i mean it fires only 1 type of projectile?)

it automatically releases 4 homing plama nades if charged to the max. if charged to a quarter it shoots one, half is 2, 3/4 is 3 nades. and it only has one type of magazine(plasma nades)

How does the plasma pistol work? Does it increase the size of the projectile depending on how long the charge is?

Nope... It has two triggers. The first fires if uncharged, the second if charged. While charging, it glows depending on how charged it is. Nothing changes at all unless you fully charge it.
