well looky what ive been making

doesnt show a whole lot i know, and the FPS sucks, but its rendering a s**t ton of polys on my sucky PC. no, thats not a level, or anything, just a buncha hills and trees.
so, if anyone wants to contribute, what i REALLY, REALLY, need are first person weapons/animations, BSPs, and just about anything you can do, because i suck at modeling/and i can barely animate just a bit.

thx gamma for teh AR and animations-it will soon be firing rounds.

Forgive my slowness, but what engine are you making this from?

I'm guessing its some animating program, like 3ds max.

unity isnt 3rd party. a bunch of developers are using unity for game development. theres a reason it costs like 1700 bucks for the full version.

i can help with BSPs. just give me rough estimates on my polygon limits and such; and themes... though im more of a forerunner / organic grassland preferred modeller...
though you have to get it ingame... i use max09; and i can just send the files when needed :)

u can also impor tmaps into unity. u guys remember that power plant i made a long time ago?


well i got that working in-game also a bigger level with animated turbines and stuff directly from max(set animation to loop in unity). i can probably help as iv done a few thing sin it, mostly help with models of scenery items and some weapons. xfire: stuntzoom. i might still have the powerplant model, which i need to optimize at a later point.

I always wanted to try unity. Never got around to it though.

unity is awesome. The main problem is you open it up for the first time and it freaks you out-your not gonna wanna touch it till you read any tutorial (IMO the fps tutorial)

poly limits-im trying to keep the rendering down to no more then 1 million polys at once, and thats pushing it alot.

Meshes, individually, can be NO LARGER then 65k polys. But you can have multiple meshes for the BSP, so id like to keep a limit for the max polys to about 200k.

a NEED is for 3rd person bipeds, to be able to see other people, death cam, and eventually a 3rd person camera. if you can do this, they need to be animated, holding the weapon. that would be SOOO awesome, that, apart from getting online setup, is my roadblock really.

theres really not a whole lot of pics to show, i dont have alot of content yet.
and BTW, if your gonna donate anything animated, put all the animations into one file, each at a different frame range, with a list of what animation is at what frame range

just a tip, do not EVER apply a mesh physics collider to something like a biped that moves. unity will do all that math for the collisions out for every triangle for every frame. for a friend of mine it dropped his frame rate from 300 to 8. be careful with your physics colliders. also as far as shaders go, the "free" version of unity that they made available to developers lacks some of the nicer shader sets like reflection.

unity 3 is supposed to be coming out very shortly. has anybody else seen the lighting system they have? it is incredible.

All it uses is the retail biped, which is pretty low poly.

it will, you just need to move the weapon in place and have it move with the biped in MAX.

Halo's retail biped has everything animated, from a run cycle to dying in midair. This includes the animation when the biped is holding the weapon.

I can create a quick video of it if you need...

NO one has Halo 3 Animations, and if you want to put Halo CE's animation in this, then whats the point of a more advanced game, if you want a classic style Halo "HD" I do infact like this idea actually..

BUt if seperatley you make a better realism/gameplay/graphics Halo then e should recreate or use H3's

but suggestions are great, cause neither of those are awesome.
but yup, this is what ive been working on.

Just so this is clear tho, this game is what yall make it. i cant make the models myself, so the more donations i recieve, the better this game will be.

and if, for some obscene reason, i cant continue it at some point, i WILL release the project to someone.

also, so what all do you need? I'm guessing vehicles, weapons, ai, scenery, and human,forunner, covenant, etc. structure models? couldn't you just get those models from ce itself?

Origin is the placement of the Fp gun model in your first person camera.
