Why is it that on my home computer anything that is camoflauged is faded away, retaining a hint of its colouring, but when I play on almsot any other computer, camoflauged things are glassy with no sign of colouring?

Check your graphic settings, low graphics = a faded camo while putting them on high gives the glassy shiny effect.

It means you have a good graphics card, surprisingly. Newer cards don't support the effect. Some program called DXTweaker is supposed to fix this.

For me, this only happens when holding the flag, so if you were doing that, that'd explain it.

That happens if you have an Nvidia card.

I'd really like to know how to fix this. I have a ati 9600 if that helps. kinda sucks having to look at this horrible effect when my iBook has the awesome effect.

I have a NVIDIA card and I like my unusual camo appearance.
On the other hand, camo in H2 still appears wiith a water shader. So does one of the maps with a Wraith with usable camo.

Geforce GTX 450 1GB, Halo on full settings, no proper camo effect. And my crappy old ATI card supported it. More likely a brand difference.

From what I remember reading somewhere, older Nvidia cards (like really old, from when they were still porting Halo or something) would crash with the active camo, so they made the game detect if you had an Nvidia card and if you do it reverts to the crappy active camo.

The "crappy" camo appears on my computer which probably has much better specs than school computers and rented netbooks.

Doesn't matter how new the card is; if it's Nvidia the game automatically changes to the lame camo.

Just use dxtweaker. It's because the newer cards are not supported.

Open Sauce Post-Processing app also seems to fix it, and it makes everything look prettier.

Any nvidia card will do this. ATI cards don't.

err I meant nvidia cards don't give off the glassy distorted effect. It's just faded.

Shall we play a game?

Maybe now would be a good time to ask why I get rogue planes everywhere when I play on an Intel GMA HD?

I think that is the problem.
There is a reason why gamers don't use intel graphics cards.

Also, sorry for threadjacking.
Back on topic, I do have a ATI and Nvidia card for both my computers respectively, and there is no problem on both my computers for the camo.
Maybe its just the compatibility of the camo effect for certain cards....
