I forget who it was, but I know someone here said something along the lines of: "Games start to die the moment they are released"
So, yes. It is, but we've known that for a couple years now.

But no one on here really cares about those players. Halo is dead when communities like this die out and the servers are still full of pirates and mexicans.

I visited SM's profile and there was nothing saying he was banned. He might have left, but I don't believe he's been banned.

This might help you to answer your question Pakar. There are some nice Modacity servers around, but most of the custom maps have long since stopped being popular. If you want to RP or just play lots of Blood Gulch, thats still there, but there are no Snow Grove servers anymore, and the way many see it, the glory days are long over. We will always remember 06-08 in our heart of hearts :)

If the community is still alive in Fall of 2011, I may make a comeback to the mapping scene.

In terms of mapping or doing anything related to creating new content...this community isn't doing nearly as much as it used to. In terms of player count, it's fallen a bit since whenever I last played weekly which was around CMT_Snow_Grove's release and the following months.

Halo PC though is still going strong with over a thousand players, and plenty of hours played shown on Xfire. I don't know the exact rank, but it's pretty high actually.

Well, it seems to me that HCE is going good, except there are still only a few maps that you can play online, most servers are on original h1 maps, or extinction or coldsnap. There's a lot of SUPER good content being made, but unless you're a modder, it seems like HCE is a lot less fun to me. But I've only been a modder for less than 3 months, but I remember playing servers back a little bit, but I wasn't exactly a member of the community.

What do you mean by not 2012?

Perhaps Dennis could come in and tell me if my intel is off.

From it's birth everything starts to die.

Is Halo CE dead? is what people ask. The question is easy to answer in its simplest terms, no it is not dead. There is traffic on the website, people download maps, people contribute to the web forum, new maps get released, people still download the game and servers are running so no the game is not dead. However that is really not what the questioner wants to know. What he want to know is should he continue playing it? That I am afraid no one but you can give you that answer.

I believe these are the stats that you are interested in:

Page views Jan 2010 - Jan 2011

This shows the number of individual pages people have looked at on the hce.halomaps.org website. we average 2.8 million pages viewed each month.

Files Downloaded

This is the number of files that get downloaded each month since we have been keeping detailed data for Halo CE alone. Over 16.5 million files have been downloaded for Halo Ce maps alone and as you can see the average per month keeps increasing.

ps: as for the expiration date: the domain will be renewed so that date is meaningless in determining if the website will still be active.

Think of it like this:

Halo: CE has cancer and is slowly dieing. Back when it first came out it was in its early stages of cancer.

It really depends on what you mean by Halo CE is dying.

Do you mean is it still active? If so, check the statistics Dennis posted.

Or do you mean are there still active intelligent and professional players? If so, I'm afraid there's a negative answer. It is very hard to find decent players on Halo CE now, and even harder to find anyone using decent teamwork.

Or even more focused, do you mean are there still active fighting players? If so, then my answer is that the only custom maps now used for fighting are coldsnap and Ambush, which both get boring after a while. Other than that, people mainly play on standard maps, mostly blood gulch.

Or do you mean there are still active roleplayers? If so, then my answer is that there are still active roleplayers in Halo CE, but not usually decent ones. Most roleplayers now work too hard to keep command over everyone, and they forget the fun and the imaginative part of roleplaying.

So yeah, if your question was any of those I referenced, then there's your answer. You may correct me if you wish, as I don't have special sources, I merely use information provided to me from playing the game.

The Halomaps community is like a big scab. People join and it grows, but uncontributing members soon fall off and leave the scab. Big projects can be released, helping the scab heal and gain more members. Sometimes, large groups or important members or projects will be unsuccessful due to life issues or whatever else, and it acts like someone picking this scab. But this soon regenerates after the wound is left alone for a while. Soon, the whole scab will disappear, having done all of it's work, and time will have slowly fulfilled and nullified it's purpose of being.
