I recently changed over to Linux and have been trying to get CE and PC running on it but Im having no luck. main problem is that I need the patch to run the game, I have downloaded the patch but it wont run without the halo CD witch I have and is in the drive when Im doing this. anyone know why Linux wont read the CD.

P.S. I have wine and Play on linux, I also have halo PC already instaled but it wont run because it needs the CD

If you patched it then you won't need the cd.

Download a NO-CD patch from gamecopyworld.com, run the update after the game loads, then it should work.

@ above,
Any pach over 1.08 disables the need for a CD, no need to get an unofficial one.

the game cant load. when I put the disk in, it trys to start then says "please insert the Halo CD and press ok". I downloaded the 1.09 patch and it needs the CD to work, but i get the same message when I put the disk in.

also I tryed looking for a no CD patch at that Gamecopyworld but I didnt see anything that said patch, but Im a noob when it comes to this kinda stuff.

Go into the Halo Custom Edition Directory, (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition) and look for a Halo Legendary Level icon that says haloupdate.

Double click on that. After downloading the update, click Run, (sometimes twice) and when it finishes, close the thing.

It should be running on 1.09, and no need for CD Key. Just load custom edition and you're on the go again!

If it still doesn't work you might have a corrupt CD key for your original Halo Combat Evolved.

It doesn't matter if the CD key has been used multiple times, that's why there are so many pirates/Mexicans on 1.00. Something might've gone wrong during your installation of PC, and now CE is experiencing it.

QuickEdit: I don't think Halo was even ported to Linux anyways. AFAIK, it was only ported to PC and Mac.

Well maybe Wine's backwards compatability doesn't work with Halo. Has the OP ever tried any other games running on Wine?
