Hello Halo fans!

As most of you know (or don't) I'm currently working on a website called HaloRank which is progressing quite well in the last month.
So some of you are probably wondering what is HaloRank?

HaloRank is a website which keeps track of your HaloPC and HaloCE multi-player statistics. While at the same time providing additional fun, through achievements, challenges and best of all ranks!

How does it work?
Basically it uses a modified server application which tracks your score and send it to the HaloRank database. The database processes all the scores submitted and turn the scores into interesting and "usefull" stuff.

Another Server application, it must be buggy and crap?
Not at all, it's stable and performs very well up till now, no crashes.
This is based on an 8 month run time/on a server with an average of 11 player on at all times throughout the month. More detail on this server app will follow around release date.

So how fast is this tracking mechanism?
Currently scores are processed within 2 minutes after a game ends, however overtime this process time will go down quite a lot and hopefully become nearly instant.

I'm a pirate or "HaloCE portable" (v1.00/v1.06) user, will my score be tracked?
Your score will be tracked but since this system is based on hash it will be quite hard to keep tracking your progress over time.
If you want to be tracked perfectly within in the system you'll need a legit install of Halo and a legit key. Measurements have been installed to filter out pirates hashes over time, however it can never be 100% perfect. This does not mean you can not play as a pirate, it just means I can't guarantee to accurately update your score over time.

I took a look at your website at HaloRank.com and it looks noobish.
My CSS skills are quite poor, design isn't really my thing, although I slowly try to master it. I usually have the right ideas just not the right skills to produce a high quality eye catcher. The current layout was basically a test case with CSS to see how it works. Behind the screens a new design is in the making which will be updated on the day of release. Here is a little tease that hopefully tickles your fancy:

What happens if I register on your website right now?
You will basically become a test dummy. Your account information will be deleted upon release. Just before you ask, Yes, I can assure you your passwords are encrypted and safe from anyone to read. Even I don't know your password.

So when do you release?
People usually say when it's done, however I aim to be done on the 1st of July with an introduction to the public through HCE3 on July 8th.
So a lot of fun ahead this summer.

That's all for now, leave your comments, thoughts and suggestions below.

Cheers,
Sean Aero

EDIT
Although it was not my intention to attract users at this time, but purely inform the community that I'm working on a project.
It seems people would like to try it, so I will list a method here.
Just be warned that the current webdesign is bad and there is horrible/to none user navigation on the website. However tracking is done correct.
As I mentioned earlier the sweet stuff will have to wait till release ;)

For those really interested in seeing a small fraction of the concept work can do the following:

1. Sign up here http://www.halorank.com (valid email needed, no worries I can't see your password it's encrypted)
2. Check your email and activate your account
3. Login (just click the word login)
4. Follow instructions on the screen.
5. Play on one of the following servers.

HaloCE(v1.00)
Server Name: 8v8 Team Sniper GenHS.com

Been done before, hopefully you can do it better.

Swing by modacity if you haven't already, chances are you'll find more people who actually know things about programming and web design there.

Additionally, I'll bite, what server have you been using and is it still up.

Additionally additionally a link to the site would help, instead of hiding it in your post.

HAC looks pretty dated, though if you go to Modacity chances are you'll be laughed out.

Yes, those awful Modacity elitists with their knowledge and whatnot :(

Don't stuff words into my mouth, dear. HAC is clearly more advanced at the moment and that was the point I presume you were trying to make.

What

I'm not even talking about HAC, and for the record it wasn't even a Halo CE related project (It came out of HPT, halo's competitive league), let alone something to come out of Modacity, so idk what you're trying to start here.

Do keep in mind HAC is for client side tracking and my stats are gathered through server side tracking.

I talk with some of the members in chats and PMs at times. Thanks for the pointer.

I guess so, but the fact is it's a WIP, so the user experience is pretty bad atm and basically any account created at this point would be a dummy account. So I intentionality left it out in the first post.

Yeah, I'm aware of that, and this is definitely a better stat tracking method.

Thanks, set everything up, gonna check it out later today.

You also might want to look into this, it took me a while to join the server your site linked me to, because once I stopped getting full messages, I got client is newer than the server ones lol.

http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?22938-Project-Unify-Halo-Custom-Edition

I'm not entirely sure how the server links an account to a hash, (does it look for similar usernames ingame to the one you registered with?) you may want to consider a less common command, perhaps something along the lines of "auth (number code here)"?

Also a more generic gametype, like stock ctf running on the server might be a bit more fitting for this.

Otherwise neat, looking forward to seeing what you do with this.

Thanks for pointing that out, any version can join now.
If you do a direct connect I'm sure it will be fine. :)

Thanks for the reactions so far :D

Yesterday I managed to script the "fun" rank system similar to that of Reach on the Xbox360.
Credits/Experience points are awarded at the end of a game. The better your performance in that game the more experience/credits gained.
The more credits/experience you have the higher your rank.
This still needs to be balanced in order to have a descent and fair ranking + experience.

Also I updated the old main page to display a bit more data for now.
So the user has a bit better understanding what direction I'm heading and how far along the functionality is.
As always don't look at the design :P

Since I don't want to force anyone to sign up I'll share an image of a game summary.

Note: The grayed out player is someone that left.
As you can see most of the basic game data is there and as I mentioned/teased in my first post there is an update on the way and so far I'm liking it.
I'm sure you will too!
The game summary is updated around 5 times each minute! (fixed this yesterday)
Meaning you can basically follow the game through the website without joining. Should be a nice feature for competitions/leagues/tournaments and such.

In other news, for those playing on HaloCE V1.09 a new server has been added to the tracking system.
Server Name: Smallworld 24/7 - RealworldCE.com
Server IP: 95.211.79.98:2304
Big thanks to Dwight and Harbinger from http://www.realworldce.com to support me during this project with their servers.

That's it for now I hope this provides a bit more understanding on what I'm working on.

How many kills do you need to get a rank?

In the beginning just a few, but this increase with each rank gained.
Kills are not the only thing taken into account there are also captures, laps, oddball time, king time, spread, assists, playtime and the map choice.

There are also additional bonuses, so the better you perform in a certain area the more chance of bonus you get. You need at least 10 minutes on the server to be awarded bonuses.

I can't tell you exact amount of how much of what, since I'm still adjusting this.
I noticed the experience gained are a bit too fast atm. So will have to increase the levels.
As soon as I find balanced numbers, I'll release them.

For now it's quite easy to rank.

Which one of the servers plays on custom maps? I know that all of the server names are R{something} but I don't know which are the ones with the app.

I really need some halo time after 134 hours of non-stop minecraft.

mmmm

You need an NA server running normal game settings. Realworld has tanks, and banshees and all that, and is pretty unplayable for North Americans too :S

Meanwhile, here in Australia, someone gets 200-300. And few to no Aussie servers exist.

Poor aussies . . .

Any how

Can you name one thing which you would like HaloRank to have on the website, inorder to visit it on daily basis? As in what would that super feature be which would get you to check the website as soon as a game has ended?

That would mean more advanced score tracking and private servers that are only accessible through the website. Can we really pull that off?

maybe make a team slayer server 4 vs 4 so kind of like the arena in Reach and give out medals

or

maybe have it track the best game played of the day and post it.

Yes, it will be.

Just because it's quiet doesn't mean it's dead!
Here is a sneak peak of what has been in the works. Took the CSS on.
For now I'm taking a day off, heading to the beach. Been coding too much in the last few days, but with every line of code the system becomes more amazing!

PS. Missed CE3 entry

Thanks. I've just finished updating a bit more if your curious and want a bit of a browse through of the WIP. Head over to http://www.halorank.com most interesting at this point would be the Games tab.

There is still a lot work to be done regarding the website, but step by step it's becoming more to my liking.

I would like to point out that the sign up is currently for closed testing only. So sorry about that.

Here is what a logged in page looks like.
