Any reason for the exterior of Keyes in particular?


It to bad we can't get the normals to show up on BSPs like they did on XBox... even if DLMs are better.

For reasons, and we don't know why, the d20 exterior, and control room exterior can't have their lightmaps re run. Tool spits errors about degenerate triangles... even though it makes no sense as to why that could happen. We presume an older version of tool was used, or that when the BSPs were automated to PC format something broke (although using moses converter didnt fix this issue, so this is less likely).

For the D20 exterior, it has few light sources and doesn't have any actual transition to another BSP, which made doing DLMs for it a quick and dirty task, compared to other areas of the game. Plus the original lighting there really sucked.

wouldn't a solution be to use a BSP exporter on the map to make an OBJ file then import it into 3ds Max and redo from there?

It doesn't exactly work that well, and even after work is done, there is no guarantee you will be able to get the portals to work as well as it did before. It's like swapping out a solid foundation for a more rickety one, which is why we never edit stock areas. With the exception of the end of AOTCR which was just to cool an area to pass up.

Another Classic Mapping Team Update cuz the other CMT stinks!


My Bungie classic non-343i effects are almost as good as me... heres some progress, I don't know why the fist untested pack still isn't in the HMU update. Maybe the other fake CMT did something, I don't care I will upload another but with more FREE and Classic Fixed tags.

If your using the original bsps, the problem is shaders that use the "simple parametrization" feature, if a uvm is stretched tool cant run lightmaps since it uses the uvm allocated in the bsp rather than building new uvms for the lightmap mesh. To solve this is as easy to unmark that specific feature.

SPV3 Part 2 looks like a downgrade compared to the visuals of the first part. But at least it's coming out so I have nothing to complain about.

Are you sure about that? Some of the shaders that use it are used in other BSPs, which do have tool compiled lightmaps. Interesting none the less.

In some ways yes, in some ways no. We were right up against the model data limit are various points, and had to work around it for quite a whole until Michelle fixed the issue. That said we also didn't really have that much time to iterate with art assets as before either, given that part 2 was basically done in 8 months (we didn't seriously get back to work until december/january).

However, we did look at a lot of our assets and got rid of some compressed textures for things in first person, and those do look noticeably better now than they did before, the shotgun and FP arms for instance. Texture filtering has also been improved, thanks to Chimera.

The problem is not the shader, its the bsp itself that has f@#%k up UVM's. (Specially planar uvm maps)

No, im not sure but when Tool displays that error you can bypass it unmarking that option (usually a cliff shader) and continue to run lightmaps. That why I ask if its the original bsp.

HALONIMATOR'S CLASSIC MAPPING TEAM (update)

I have finally finished the covenant ai's and bipeds, right now I am starting with the flood...

just to show something, the infection form will be the h3 one, it has 3 lods and a custom model (made by me on zbrush as an alternate version if some one doesn't like the h3 one). since it and all my bipeds use custom bones they cant be used or combined with the vanilla or CMT single liberals version 3 tags.





A render of my custom flood infection (the one I made in zbrush) coming soon... expect a comparison with the h3 one.

Grow up NEIL (aka masterz1337) or I will call your parents.
