I recently installed Halo Custom Edition and HEK, then found out you needed HEKPlus in order for HEK to work. So I installed the latest version I could find(I think it was 2007) and it will not start up. I have changed the properties to compatibility mode and disabled desktop composition, but when I attempt to open HEKPlus.exe, as Admin or regular user, nothing happens except a "HEKPlus.exe has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solution to the problem..." that returns nothing. I am running Windows 7 32-bit on an HP laptop. Halo CE and HEK run fine. I have reinstalled HEKPlus twice. Is this a problem, or did I just make some obvious mistake? I'm new to this kind of thing...

Well, HEK+ is rather important if you want to be able to extract tags from other maps, including original ones, BUT it is not needed for HEK to "work"

Yes, I meant that you need HEK+ to extract tags from maps, one of the main functions of HEK. Does anyone have a solution?

Extracting stuff was never one of the main functions of the actual HEK or intended to be.

HEK+ was developed by SteelIXB... it was used so you could extract original tags from maps. Only flaw was the protection of maps, IMO anyway.

As for your solution: Go to the properties of the shortcut to it and make it run on Windows 2000 or Windows 95.

I'd normally suggest to do exactly what you did - compatibility and disabling desktop composition, but you say you already tried that...

When I run the HEK+ I also have "Disable visual themes" checked off; you may want to try again with that just in case. If it still doesn't work I don't know what to say.

Be sure you have the dot.net framework installed.

I already have it installed and the latest version.
EDIT: Do you have to have it in the Halo Custom Edition directory, or can you just run it from the desktop? Because I'm running it from the desktop...

its difinately better to run it from the custom edition directory.
IMO, if you want to rip from original maps, cant you just use the tags already included with HEK?
ripping is NOT a main feature of HEK. it was designed for creating original maps, without ripping peoples stuff.

Anyone? I've run it from the CE directory, compatibility mode for each one you guys suggested, disable desktop composition and visual themes, and I have the .NET framework installed, latest version.

I have run HEK+ on 32 & 64 bit window 7, Vista and XP with no issue other than the dot.net framework and on Vista and Windows 7 to disable desktop composition and disable visual themes and even with those unchecked the program will rum until you right click on the menu.

If your program is crashing when you start up then either the program is corrupt, (download again) you have an issue with permissions that do not allow you to run programs or there is something wrong with your OS. Check the windows event logs to see if something is being recorded about the crash.

I download the december 06 version, which was the latest I saw on this site. Is there a newer version, and if there is, can someone link me to it?

I (vista) have it set to compatability for SP2, Disable visual themes, disable desktop composition, and run as administrator. and it works.
so yea.
But that IS the version i have now. so i dont know what else the problem could be.

I just redownloaded the microsoft .net framework 4 and selected repair. Maybe this will help...
EDIT: I have just discovered that Sapien also dislikes me. It will open my custom map scenario just fine, but the game view window where the map is supposed to appear is just a black screen, even after I run radiosity. Also, when I type "radiosity_start", the numbers are already at 0, even though they're supposed to count down. Yes, I gave the map a sky. Is this a more common problem?

Have you tried opening tutorial.scenario located in levels/test/tutorial/ folder?

Yes, that opened fine. Let me double-check that my map has a sky...
EDIT: Yes, my map has a .sky file selected in guerilla. I can open the tutorial.scenario just fine. Is this a problem with my map?
