that's a good looking rig, but I think the armor is a little too shiny, either that or it's the detail bump that's throwing me off. The hands look reeally good though.

O-O how did you make that normal map? I use cage and have it shaded as the projection modifier and it never comes out at different levels of blue like that lol.

You should know that porn is rated 18+, you stated that Halo is 16+, which means there is a possibility that there are members below 18 years. So you shouldn't post porn on the forums.

And Cheddars, contact me trhough Xfire or Halomaps PM and post me your 'render to texture' settings.

Wrong ! There are of erotic movies authorized +16. (American pie is +12)

Yet, there are much more rated 18+. Even if we are old enough, it doesn't mean we would want to see it.

^This. I am over 16, but i have no desire to be randomly bombarded with this material. i don't like spam in my E-mail's inbox, and i don't want it anywhere else.

I want DARK FLAME MASTER!

So, am I the only one who cringes while watching that show? it would be fine if her eye was actually magical and stuff, but the fact it isn't, and her still acting that way.. At the very least, do the entire show like the battle in episode 2, then I can accept it. (Also, he should of freaking destroyed the recorded, or at the very least erased it.. How could he let the sister take it back.. rawr)

Eh... I was thinking about doing diagrams/tutorials on random stuff like smoothing groups.

http://imageshack.us/a/img69/6683/wrongsmoothing.jpg
http://imageshack.us/a/img26/4959/correctsmoothing.jpg

I was a derp for not figuring out a faster way to get smoothing groups rolling on random models... But 3ds max's modifier's are fantastic.

First picture is what most people here do to models, apply 1 smoothing group to the entire model... Second is using the smooth modifier, and some manual tweaking, taking a total of maybe 2 minutes?

The seams here and there are because the mesh's are split by shader index. Not notice-able with textures.

I dont like the smoothing groups on the second pic and I dont see how they can be qualified as good...

The smoothing groups on the second pic isn't great, but it's surely better than the first smoothing group. See for yourself, the extension for the stock is much better in the second picture than in the first picture.

That's because in the first picture, it's all faces applied with a single smoothing group; all faces have a smoothing group of 1.

Smoothing groups are vastly overrated nowadays, especially when using normal maps baked from a high poly model (which applies for most Halo 3 models).
The smoothing groups actually depend on the UV layout. Whenever you split an UV element you will have to apply a smoothing group split as well.
In general, the modeler should go for the least amount of UV elements which means you can end up with a really messy smoothing, but whenever the normal map is applied everything is fine.

Let's check out a Jackhammer model I made a while ago:

As you can see, the smoothing is really messy in some spots.

Whenever the normal map is applied it looks perfectly fine! The shader is a realtime viewport one.

There's a really nifty tool called TexTools (http://www.renderhjs.net/textools/) that has a nice tool included applying the smoothing groups automatically according to the UV elements. It'll provide perfect results for baked models - therefore I recommend it for Halo 3 stuff.

If you're going for an old-school lowpoly model you should go for the best possible smoothing though!

Is that the Jackhammer shotgun that's featured in some maps on Halomaps?
