I'm thinking of porting a Minecraft map into Halo since i'm enjoying both games, I will model the whole map and use Mojang's textures. I am not planning to use OS(unless I really need it) or any custom tags in this map.

I will update this post as much as possible with pictures.

My Goal:

Latest render:

And now you. Hopefully your name won't be added to the list of people who gave up. It's beyond me why you'd want to port it anyway, though.

It's not hard to port it. I have a model of my village already in 3ds max with textures. Didn't bother exporting it for ce.

The problem is from minecraft to max is that 1 minecraft block contains 16×6 polygons, and those aren't even welded. And then you have extra blocks you can't see. I assume that this is more work than just rebuilding it by myself.

But I'll try that program and see how it turns out.

EDIT: It gave me a virus after downloading that program.

Because he probably thinks that its stupid to take a game like minecraft and convert it to CE. (I don't think so, i'm just saying that's probably why hes "laughing")

I think it's dumb, not stupid, but dumb. There's no redeeming graphical or gameplay value in Minecraft maps, especially here in what looks to be a randomly chosen part of the terrain. Don't see the point in bothering to model all of that tbh.

Make a prototype map, just a small one, and see if it's fun gameplay.

Essentially you'll be jumping 24/7, unless you create a collision model to correspond with the minecraft map, which could just as well be its own map anyhow and have better gameplay value.

To make the map itself, create the outline in max, then just plop the textures on it, that way you don't have overlapping blocks and whatnot.

The fact you got a virus for downloading a program you thought would've helped.

Am I still evil?

Well since I have AVG, the moment the download finished, it got corrupted so I couldn't use it. So it didn't affect my pc.

Oh that makes me feel better. I thought I screwed up your computer. I never knew that was a virus. I'll remove the link so no one else gets infected.

It's not a virus. It works fine.

I've used it before and I just downloaded it half an hour ago to test it.

I had an Idea like this.

What it would feature:
All the Biomes, A cave with lava of course. A Castle, A villiage. You know the usual what you see in a Minecraft Server. and instead of Halo portals you would have Nether portals that would teleport you around the map. and maybe even add a minecart system, but machines dont work in CE very well. unless yoyorast cares to explain how he got his to work in YoYorast Island v2.

If you're going to make this, please put a little more consideration into your map choice. I'm sure there are plenty of other places in your world that would have more gameplay value.

And adding up to the list of ideas, Overshields could put iron armor on the biped (Steve), and there could be Spears, Swords, and a variety of Bows. Maybe put the old Machinegun Bow in the center of the map to act as a Rocket Launcher of sorts. The Bows could be like the Plasma pistols in the way of charging and what not.

Halo: Modelling devolved

Halo: Worldspace Evolved

A massive Minecraft map like this would be awesome!

I suggest using OS if only just for the extra tag space. Minecraft's worlds are massive from what I've seen and after modelling the entire map AND adding in all of the weapons, vehicles, bipeds, and all the rest, you might find that you need the extra tagspace from OS. ;)

I figure he's only doing part of it anyhow, so need for OS. You'll get a larger audience that way too.

Also, is your collision model going to reflect the map, or is it going to be sloped so you can get around without hopping like a mad bunny rabbit?

You should model a rabbit biped and turn jumpheight(Or whatever affects jumping) up loads.

Rabbit War anyone?

They did it sparsely though

Here, on the other hand, your thumb would be tired before you even saw the enemy, much less shoot them in the face.

Increase jumping speed then? Or whatever other parameter could affect the speed of climbing?

I guess it'd make sense for smaller ledges to have 'ramp collision' though and would probably fix the whole hopping issue.

I've read through the posts, so people want gameplay value? Does anyone have a particluar seed wit ha screenshot that you want to have modelled. I will try to use OS if possible. I also realized that the map I'm modelling now isn't going to have any gameplay value.

So I'm open for suggestions.

EDIT: Found this interesting map, called Kingdom of the Sky.

Every map should have some gameplay value at least, unless it's solely built for screenshots.

Oh and I don't play Minecraft so can't give you any suggestions for maps to copy. Sorry.

You could try making a custom map in Minecraft, taking screenshots, and then using that as a concept maybe?
