Hi everyone. How do people feel about rippers?

I solved the algorithm to safely rip <protected> files
with a personal program over a year ago. It works.

But I had the thought recently to ask what others think of ripping.
I strictly rip only <protected> files since then.
Bipeds, skies or HUD for personal use.

Below are a few pics of <protected> Bipeds as demonstration and Arcane Forest sky.
What are your thoughts on ripping?

It was worth the challenge to try to solve the mystery of it.
I am not a fan of ripping then publishing or passing on that content though.

personally i'm not bothered if someone chooses to rip or not, that's up to them.
the apps are out there to let people rip so no point in caring really.

go ahead and rip and/or release the program

the community is pretty much past the whole anti-ripping stage, and honestly I don't see any harm in releasing tools like this. Ripping just isn't as big a deal any more due to the fact there isn't a lot of new content that people don't want the public to have like there was back in the day.

It's good to ask for thoughts on the subject though out of respect for
why we <protect> content in the first place; there's hard work that went into it.

No release though as Content-Chaos can ensue with something like this.

But now everyone knows its possible : D and I'm sure
the brilliant tech minds here can whip something else up
will all the Tools and Utilities that prove people can make great things.

I learned mostly everything about Guerilla and tagging from blind ripping. Now there are programs out there that rip for you and kids now a day are becoming lazy rippers

I will admit I rip sometimes for my own personal use but never to just make a map with a ton of ripped stuff. I would like to use this for myself though if at all possible.

Back in our days ripping could be useful.

Now I'm on the side of the extremists anti rippers. BRING IT ON RIPPERS !

This is the problem I see with ripping from maps.
Don't get me wrong, it's cool to have toys to play with and all, but the problem is after you've gotten used to these cool toys you always want more and will resort to ripping them. I'm not going to go into the whole "they're microsoft's property now" or "the artists are the owners," no, the problem I see with ripping is that when someone starts to rip and keeps doing it they become lazy and won't put forth the effort to learn how to make toys themselves, and when enough people do that no new toys get made.
Personally, I still prefer the vanilla tagset, but I always love to see people use their creativity or tagging expertise to create something cool and new. Ripping threatens that.

But they might lose the will if all of their work just gets ripped.

Actually I think of ripping as a way that people want to obtain your tags because you're just too damn good at making them C:

I don't care about rippers anymore, all I do is rip peoples hearts out.

Well, at least then, nobody wouldn't be ripping, so nobody would be making new content, thus...

Nobody would rip. See, my logic is unarguable?

So if everyone ripped, no one would make new content because they are so pissed off some 8 year old took their tag and uploaded it in a blood gulch mod that no one plays

The ONLY two reasons, why ripping is bad. Is:

1. The vast majority of rippers do NOT give credit to the original creators of the content.
2. No one learns how to create CUSTOM MADE assets, so the only form of new content is from other games, which will always be EXACTLY the same, so no variation of custom copies.

Then there are other reason for example, that is the point in ripping something when you can learn how to create it from scratch, which will in turn TEACH you how to make other things that you may not be able to rip. And the idea is you generally feel like you have achieved something, in a way, and also people are going to see you as being much better than rippers...

this

in fact, a lot of the people who make good tags were rippers originally

plus what if people don't wanna make custom content, i think u anti rippers are forgetting that little part of the equation

like me, I have absolutely 0 desire to learn how to animate or model, but I love to mod. (I do make sounds and bitmaps and I script, but I dont consider any of that custom)

This is just fun and games, kids, don't act like it means anything, your content doesn't even belong to you. It belongs to microsoft

90% of rippers don't learn how.

And they can learn how to make custom TAGS yeah, but what use are tags without the actual model and textures ect...

i dont like rippers to be honest, i remember when a group of ppl ripped from one of my maps (my maps name is war fields and yeah it was pr protected) the group was clan eaters or something like that, they modded the map and tried to take the credit for the whole map as theirs, but then i told dennis and he moved the mod to the mod maps section, i never took anything from a protected map And i never will, however theres nothng i can do about those rippers, unless i find out how was the map Revelations protected it seems to be the best as far as i ve seen, i even used some 'tools' to see how good that maps protection was and not even those programs that are used to bypass protection were able to open it, so yeah that MY opinion, oh and if someone here actually knows how to protect maps like revelations PM me plz :3
