Hi guys, I am trying to edit the red and blue teams' flag bitmap for Halo CE. Do I edit the .bitmap files or do I start from scratch and then use tool to create the .bitmap? If so what is the command-line. Thanks.

choose some images for the flags you want to use,now in the data folder make a
new folder and name it, put your flag bitmaps in here.
make them the same size as the current hce flags, think they are 256 x 128 (it's been a
while since i made any new flags).
compile them in tool. the command in tool is tool bitmaps nameoffolder bitmaps. open them in guerilla and change the format from
compressed with color-key to compressed with explicit alpha.
compile them bitmaps again in tool.
the maps will now be in the folder with the same name but in the tags folder.
then just follow this...

open guerilla go to tags/weapons/flag
click on bitmaps, this shows the current bitmap for red/blue teams
and the other things that relate to the flags.

now take a look in the shaders folder, this is the shaders for the flag/flag pole etc.
click on the flag_blue.shader_transparent_chicago.
scroll down to the part named (maps)
if you look at the bottom under mipmap bias
you see (map) this is where you add the path to your new choice
of flag for in-game.
you add the path of these bitmaps from where they were placed by tool in the tags folder.

lol a lot of text for something so simple.

i hear the grammar and spelling police call by so i fixed my stuff up :)
(not guilty your honor).

When I try to open the new .bitmap I made in tool, there is no image when I click the "show bitmaps" button.

thats because you probably made one with more than the guerrilla resolutions sizes which are 64,128,256,512,1024...
change them to this side and it should work

Ok everything is fine now except for the open edges in my map:

I get a few edges called out in tool, one for example:

###ERROR edge #10 is open <red>

I import my .wrl into gmax and I see this, I know what the problem now is but have no idea how to fix it, can someone please explain to me step-by-step? Here is an image: I added the arrows and lines to highlight the problem.

open edge means your map isn't fully sealed.
convert it to editable poly, click on the border tool, scroll over the area where you know the problem is and you should see it surrounded with red lines (make sure you have wire frame turned on, or you will not see the red lines).
now you can either just use the cap tool to fill the gap, or make new polys to fill it in.

The only red lines it shows is the frame i made, and the color was red. I don't see any other red lines.

okay do you get a pop up error about the frame?
did you flip the frame, because you don't have to.

or if you get this error: -- Unknown property: "name" in undefined
it means you haven't named it frame.
basically when you created the 2nd box object to use as the frame you have to change the name from box to frame.
edit: also make sure the frame isn't too close to the main map/model, you could make it a bit smaller too, it doesn't need to be as big as you have it.

i see you are making your map from a basic box, i'm a little confused how you are ending up with open edges, (bottom is ground, middle raised up to form cliffs, top is skybox).

in slappy the pirates old image the center shows what an open edge looks like, this is what you have to fix.
it is basically just a hole in the model, you just need to fill that gap or gaps with polygons.

think i might have confused you a little with the the border tool way, but this should now make sense.
if not just say.
