Per above, I am trying to collect information on what was/is missing from the Xbox-version of Halo: Combat Evolved... and which community (or who) would be better to ask than those in Halomaps?! For those asking why I'm doing this, it's for documentation purposes.

So far, I can confirm that the PC version lacks certain shaders (i.e. Jackal's shield variants to differentiate Minors from Majors) and that the FOV is slightly altered (from 80/85 to 75, right?).

I hope the topic is clear enough... :/

The loss of shader_transparent_generic. IIRC, these are why the jackal shield and c_field_Generators are not the same, like you said. A few things lost their multipurpose maps (the reflection masks and detail masks), like the assault rifle, the flag, and maybe a few others. No coop of course. Halo for xbox does not have online play. Probably more. I just cant think atm.

I played halo ce anniversary and the normal graphics looks so much better than halo PC.

If someone can fix this then please do :)

Interestingly the HCEX version has no detail objects.

What? I distinctly remember being in awe at the a30 grass when I first played it.
I'll have to fire it up again to verify..

Oh you mean anniversary?
Thought the X referred to "xbox".

ohh i though the original halo xbox from 10+ years ago...

there are things from that version that were not seen in halo pc...

the xbox version from 10 years ago had better atmosphere effects, like fog, and the bump mapping of the bsp reacted with the radiosity lighting, pc version doesn't have those things >:(
does anyone remember that from the old xbox version?

HCEX is the official internal name for it, Halo CE 10(years)

It's ignorant to assume everyone knows the appropriate internet abbreviations. Especially if they aren't 100% clear, such as in this case, where we are comparing the PC and Xbox version of Halo CE. HCEX is easily assumed to be the original Xbox version without further clarifications.

Keep the info coming! So far, I can verify that the following is missing in HCE (PC) and HCEA:
* No co-op (online/campaign)
* Missing shaders for certain models - shader_transparent_generic for Jackals' shields, c_field_Generators for the stationary shield model
* Missing bitmaps - multipurpose maps
* Broken blend modes - subsequently effects shaders
* Atmosphere effect - fogs

I can't confirm about "bump mapping of the bsp reacted with the radiosity lighting". Anyone can confirm about the FOV?

Also, since a few here are making comments about HCEA, let me share a good critical review from a Halo fan. Critical comparison in terms of visual and sound design.

And thing is the multipurpose map system are inversed and than didn't bother to tell us the difference in guerilla. So we have people who keep making them the wrong way, so we have people doing multipurpose maps wrong

Halo 1 xbox:
Red channel is detail map
green remains the same as self illumination
Blue is colour-change
Alpha is specular

halo 1 pc:
Red channel is detail
Green is self illumination
blue channel is specular
Alpha Is colour change

There was no change in AI. What the heck lead you to that conclusion? AI tags were preserved, so were scenarios.

They changed some geometry here and there. For example Battle Creek window holes can't be climbed on PC and HangEmHigh ditch has weird straight ends with light stripes on PC.

Halo 1 xbox:
Red channel is detail map -wrong, red channel for the xbox was the specular source
green remains the same as self illumination
Blue is colour-change
Alpha is specular -alpha was never used unless the shader required transparency, i honestly remember hearing that the alpha was the detail channel, yet nearly none of the original multipurposes had an alpha channel, leaving me to believe it was always constantly full strength...

halo 1 pc:
Red channel is detail
Green is self illumination
blue channel is specular
Alpha Is colour change
