Hey guys,

I recently got max 8 (thanks again Dratt) and it works great for CE exporting.

However, when I model, I get some really bad lag, and alot of glitchy clipping issues. Higuy told me putting it in wireframe would help, and it did, but It would be complicated to texture it like that.

Is there any way that I can get rid of this lag by disabling things? My PC specs are really good, and 3Ds Max 10 runs alot smoother than 8, so it's not my PC.

Thanks for the help!

Hmm. I also have 3ds max 2010 and 8. Always worked fine for me. The only thing I can think of is changing some display driver configurations in preferences> Viewports. Max 8 does have some issues with windows vista and 7, but its normally fixed by switching to windows basic.

How would I do that?

if you have other programs running try shutting them down.
did a a scheduled av scan maybe kick in?
you don't have 3ds 8 set to run on 1 cpu do you, if so let it run as normal.
backburner gives it's self open ports to use when the program is installed, try removing them and see if it helps.
viewport configs sounds like a good thing to be checking out.
it can't be a problem with ram going bad, as you mentioned max 2010 works fine.

in reply to killerftw, i had 3ds max 8 running fine in win 7 home premium, all i noticed was the color setting adjusted because of compatibility, but it was all good after that.

edit: just saw your post there nick.

click customize/preferences/viewport/display driver or config driverr what ever needs adjusted.

How do I set the CPU usage?

Edit: Thanks for the help. The driver was set to something else, not my graphics card. Once I set it to my graphics card, it runs flawlessly now.

don't worry about it, it is just affinity.
but seeing you asked how to do it tells me you didn't change it from default
so alls good.

edit: glad to hear it's working with the driver changed.
