I'm still trying to figure out if it's because of Fraps or if its because of Sony Vegas. I'll try to fix them and probably record with better audio, but for now you can ask me any questions you have about the empty spaces so I can fill in the blanks.

So, talking to one of my friends, and he handed me a random OBJ file with a bunch of textures and said to put it in 3DS Max. After learning what it was, I had to make a scene out of it



I question how its only been about 3 days and people are already ripping from evolve but hey now I'm in possession of what is quite possibly the best weapon in the game visually

its surprising isn't it? My issue however is that the stupid normal maps, especially for third person, don't really work well. It's really confusing

It's not a bad-looking rifle by any stretch of the imagination, but its aesthetic doesn't really blow me away. Abe's revolving shotgun, on the other hand...

I only really made animations with the models that I rigged myself (like that H4 MC from forever ago and the Promethean Knight). Otherwise I really just mess around with the stuff. If you really wanted to pull off some good animations, go take the Z-Team stuff and just port those animations over. Mind you, there's a high chance that you'll need to scale everything up (I scaled everything up to 311.7 in Max generic units as it got the H3 MC to his exact canonical height) in order to make it not loltiny.

If you scale it all up and rebuild the bones, you can actually use Ghost's animation tools to import the animations, and then subsequently export them into UE4 just like that.

Unless you actually meant UDK, to which I have to say you're on your own because I don't know how to use UDK

actually, if by default you're at 100, I set it to 311.7
This gets MC to his canonical height, not the same height as the UE4 Character (it's actually much larger). I scaled everything else to the same point.

so by request of Sshers4 (I cant believe I actually did it too) I made a tutorial (wait what). Whole premise of the tutorial is bring Halo 1 maps to UE4 (And as a warning, you cant distribute your work if you do that, that's a breach of Microsoft's Game Content Usage rules and you could get sued for it. Seriously, Spare yourself the legal trouble, use this as a learning experience on how to do basic level integration if anything).

Im not 100% sure of Dennis would allow this tutorial, but technically speaking, what a good portion of the modding community does and posts here is more or less in the same legal grey/gray area, so I guess it's ok?

Tutorial is self explanatory. If you have questions ask at the end

Very nice.

I'm struggling with blend maps. Your tutorials whilst excellent don't provide ME with the insight to extract the diffuse map channel from the entire blend map.

All I see in your channel are the setting halo reach and halo 4 bipeds materials up to show nice in a render. And performing a 1 point or two point colour change on a halo 4 mp biped using cc maps.

Blend maps are entirely different.

I'll pm examples to you when I can.

oh wait are you talking about the blend maps that are used on maps? I know how you set those up but that's really complicated to do. Its a lot of masking

Although the concept is similar to the way I did CC maps, it requires more thorough use of the color correction node. Anyways i'll see if at some point soon I can make the tutorial but i'll need to figure if its gonna be video or pictures

I don't think it'd work in halo unless H1 innately supports the blend maps. The way I'd show you is how to set it up in 3DS max

But the thing is, halo 3 and 4 both use blends and then tiling diffuse maps. Can you still do that same thing in ce
