That's only for the root menu. We also felt that the new format frees up space and works with the overall cleaner feel of the UI.

I always liked Noobyourmom's Covert Ops campaign.

Also, for the Halo in the UI, would it be possible to put in particles so it looks like it's charging to fire?

Is there anyway in the description part in the UI you could say what the map name was, that way if we don't have the map we can easily go and find it

That's actually a pretty good idea Matt, I was thinking of making a Word doc or something with all the maps, but that could help with it too.

What about that error screen that I had already explained to you the while back?.. If they already have the map, they don't need to have the name shown in the discription, but when they try to load a map they dont have, just pop up the error screen. Since when they use the map_name command, it will just load the map if they have it, they will only notice the error screen if they dont have the map.

That's the plan, Kirby, but also I think having the actual map name in the description will just further aid in making sure the player gets the right map.

EDIT: All map descriptions now show the mapname.

What is the criteria you are using to select which maps? I ask because you will have only a very very small sampling by asking in this forum and even then,,,

The File archive can sort the maps by the number of downloads or the rating. The number of downloads will give you a better indication since it is not subjective like the ratings are. What I mean is that everyone who downloaded the map has it but not everyone who downloaded the map rated it.

I did a few searches by download count, and all the maps at the top were Bungie campaign ports; once it got to the custom stuff, a lot of the download counts were pretty close together. Plus I saw a couple maps like "Project Subterfuge" that don't really hold their own as a SP map. I was hoping that asking the forums could help with steering me to getting a better idea of what people want.

Though, I guess my personal standards me a bit high. I'll probably have to trust the numbers if I don't get enough input from here.

This is also a good question. Are you putting in maps that will be done in the future? Ala like my Takedown series has 2 maps that aren't out yet or Hiralis'es ODST series that has no maps out yet?

I haven't decided that yet - it's up to if CMT is willing to host updated versions of the UI on a server.

EDIT: I need mapnames for the four ODST levels and the two upcoming Takedown levels please!

takedown_theintroduction.map - Takedown: The Introduction (Released!!!!)
takedown_projectlawson.map - Takedown: Project Lawson (*sigh*)
takedown_extermination.map - Takedown: Extermination (Meh)

this is where I need to contact you. Depending on how much tagspace there is I might have to split takedown: project lawson into two parts. Even if the UI is released before the map will load one after another so it shouldn't really matter.

Custom bipeds finished already.....
People have already got betas for the first level and it's actually going very fast in terms of production. The custom BSP are good. Encounters are good. Cinematics are being put in. These was a cinematic in the most recent beta. It's coming along so don't just say 'the map will never happen because of the map names'.

I read the thread and I see promise in Hiralis' project.

Regardless, it's in here for now.


As well as the Takedown Series. I'd like to know if there are any other good map series out there so I can put them neatly at the top of the Community SP section.

Yes, each map is going to have its own image next to it. I have been taking the pictures myself but I'd be cool with getting a few image submissions for me to choose from and crop to the appropriate dimensions.

Still a shame there won't be animated camera tracks in the subsections of this UI.
But: add a spot for the Flood Campaign! Lodeman's recommendation.

Also, would it be possible to make "trimmed" versions of the UI?

Perhaps supply the tag files so people can personalise it a bit. I mean as it is now, there'll be alot of things on it that I will never use. I don't want any of the CMT maps in my UI, I'd just like to use it for Lumoria, a few other custom SP maps, and some of the firefight maps (but not all of them!). It would just be rather unprofessional if I need a UI for it that presents a whole slew of things I'd never use :P

There are no animated tracks for the same reason that the root menu is consolidated; this UI is going for a more clean, simplified style so it can display all of the content in an orderly and consistent fashion. The main submenus have really nice camera shots that were painstakingly adjusted for perfection. That would be lost if it were animated. Think Halo Reach.

EDIT: If you want a personalized version of this UI, just hit me up after release and I can put one together for ya.

As for Mud_Skirmish, that map is currently listed under the Firefight section. The Great Infestation will either have both the new and old versions or just the new version, depending on what the author wants. Retribution will use v1.1.

There is no need for the multiplayer maps to be included.
The UI will adjust itself to include more MP map names.
