Quick tutorial for fixing audio files that wont compile:

A lot of people shy away from working with sounds too much in Halo because of all the compile problems they encounter. I made a tutorial a while back for compiling long sounds like music and whatnot but since then I have had to help several people whose sounds stubbornly refused to compile.

These problems are quite common. Fortunately they are very easy to fix once you know how.

If you are having problems with a particular sound these 5 simple steps should solve the problem (most of the time).

1. Open your original sound in Audacity.

2. Open a new empty Audacity window and set the "Project Rate" (in the bottom left corner) to either 22050 or 44100

3. Copy the contents of your original file to the new empty file.

4. Close and delete your original file (or move it to a different directory away from where you will compile).

5. Export the audio from your new file to a .wav file

Basically some of these files are set up in some weird way that confuses the heck of of tool. By copying the contents of your original file into a fresh new file you are clearing away the excess information/formatting in the file.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My current list of tutorial requests is (in no particular order):

Advanced FP animation
Advanced muzzle flash
Custom Pickup icons/text
Custom 3rd Person Animations
Throwable weapons (i.e. grenades as a .weapon)
Custom Main menu
Custom BSP
Custom Vehicle
Custom vehicle with breakable parts
Ammo Counter

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feel free to ask questions and make requests in this thread. I will keep both of the above sections of this post updated as I complete tutorials and receive requests.

Well I may not be the most knowledgeable person around for rigging. But I will try to get around to it (hopefully this week if my schedule allows).

I got a request for a projectile tutorial, so here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmXT2mxmIuQ&feature=youtu.be

@darksoldier: I'll try to get around to your request next, I just didn't have the time just yet for a long tutorial so I did the shorter request. (i'll probably do FP first, idk if anyone will need to see the whole biped rigged once they understand the process.)

Well, I completed darksoldiers request for a rigging tutorial.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBfJk2yf4CM&list=PLsYFcdY5bHyI-O9TO8PEqoU_ObhqTvq_U&index=1

I am sure there was another request, but I don't remember. So if anyone has another request (or wants to remind me of a request they made before), please let me know.

And as always, let me know if you have any questions.

A laser pointer tutorial for the, UMP would be good.

You would have to edit your custom ump with its attachments though..

I believe CMT added a laser pointer to their pistol in the SPV2 beta in the first mission, if you could replicate that effect and show us how to do it that would be awsome.

I'll take a look at it and see what I can come up with. Shouldn't be very difficult.

SPV2 is exceptioning whenever I try to run it. If you want the laser pointer tutorial you will have to make a video or take some screenshots for me. That way I can see how it functions.

thanks for the link.

So basically it looks like it just sorta fades out after a short distance right? I didn't see it actually putting a red dot on things that it was pointed at.

If that's the case then it should be very easy to make.

is there anyway we could link it to the flashlight and give it its owen functuion?

I'm pretty sure its the same laser as the spartin laser is using.

It looks to me like semi transparent geometry. But I will play around with it and see if there is a better way before I make the tutorial.

Yeah, it's geometry. Also, the SPV2 Public Beta of A10 exceptions with OS. I do not know if that applies to the other maps.

Thanks for confirming that. I thought that it was geometry, but I couldn't quite tell for sure without playing it myself.

This is a little off topic. (sorry)

But is it possible to incorporate a folding stock for the UMP.45 in the first-person ready animations? (Tutorial not required)

The hinge is pretty easy to model however I have no clue what frame or marker to apply.

(-video demonstrating my UMP's for halo.)

Edited by ASCENDANTJUSTICE on Apr 18, 2013 at 06:31 AM

Hey, sry I didn't answer this before. I didn't notice your message.

Yes it is absolutely possible to do that. Once you have modelled the hinge and whatnot, simply create a frame (name must start with "frame" but then it can be whatever you want), I would probably name it "frame stock"

Make sure that the new frame is attached to the frame gun, and that your stock is attached to the frame stock, then you can animate it when you create your first-person ready.

I have been too busy to do anything with halo for a while, but today I found some time and went ahead and got your request done.

Long Custom Sounds Tutorial (Halo: CE)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOGvN85yuxk&feature=youtu.be

This should be everything you need to know to compile long sounds like music and whatnot.

No problem, glad it helped.

I don't remember what other requests I had for tutorials. So for the sake of convenience please post any tutorial requests that you have here in this thread so I have a single list and I will get around to them as I have time.

btw, I edited my OP to contain a complete list of my tutorials so that they can all be found from one place easily. I'll keep that list updated when I make more.
