I'm highly pissed off right now. I was randomly just browsing around and found that my map "s h i t hole" (spaced out due to the profanity thing) which I shared with a person years ago is on here for download and it says the author is some guy named Infamouslink. There doesn't seem to be any credit given to me since I made the map... If there is any doubt that this map was created by me I can show the actual 3DS Max map file with all my objects textures etc...

This is why I won't release the SGC Map everyone has been bugging me about!

OH MY GOD! This is unbelievable! Its completely incredible! No one has ever given a map away to a total stranger on the Internet and had them upload it to the archive for publication. I can't believe this has happened it's never come up before.... Oh wait... http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?nid=347

Yeah, well at the very least he removes the author name completely, that way no one gets credit. What if I wanted to go around claiming all the maps on this site were mine? :o No one would ever get credit, AHAHAHAHA (but srs.)

No sarcasm at all. This is such a new phenomenon - the person who gave away the map being upset that someone did something with it he didn't intend even though there is no copyright available to him for the map because Microsoft holds it - that I had to reference a nearly eight year old blog posting covering this issue which seems to come up on a nearly regular basis over and over and over and ......

Our policy is that if the map author is in legitimate dispute we remove all attribution from it.

Just as a side note to what I have to deal with on this: I received an email from the contact page (the correct way to handle this issue) from someone profanely stating that someone took credit for two of his maps when in fact he was the one who put the "handle" in the author field but then changed it after he submitted the maps and then forgot.

You know a great way to avoid this whole stealing tags/releasing maps problem... Never give anyone anything until its finished, and when it is finished release the map and all the tags together.

They can't steal it if you have already given it to them :D

Doesn't work if there are multiple people working on a project, unless you keep the level only on your PC and selfishly have your team only work on placeholder ones :s

well yes, but if you only work with people that you trust 100% then the team isn't the issue.

Besides these problems mostly happen with beta testers and such, not actual team members.

You have just started paying attention that's all. I was a super sarcastic email/BBS list moderator long before forums or the internet as we now know it even existed.

The readme should be generated by a form on upload and given the same name as the uploaded file. I don't know if you have the time for that, but It'd probably make your job easier.

Actually it wouldn't because people lie.

Strange. Not an issue though?

Somebody's leaked a map and used my name once. Now that is irritating. :/
