After some troubleshooting, I've gotten it down to HAC.

I'm renting a server, and as soon as I try to load my map, I get dropped with the "Unable to join server" message. I AM able to create a LAN game with this map. It seems to only be an issue when I try to run it on my dedi.

What gives?

-I'm positive that the version on the server is the same version that's in my 'maps' folder.
-I'm running SAPP on my server, but after a fresh reinstall without the mod, I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with it.
-It works fine with OS, and with vanilla Halo CE.
-I tried recompiling and even started with a fresh .scenario file. The map is using the stock tagset, with the exception of shaders (but this shouldn't be an issue, since the map runs FINE on LAN).

What does HAC have to do with custom maps on dedicated servers?

I'm truly stumped.

So you removed HAC and you could join?

HAC or HAC 2? if HAC, then there may be things in HAC 2 that fix the issue you may have.

HAC 2, the one with the server bookmarks and map downloads. When I remove the loader.dll out of my 'controls' folder, I'm able to join my server.

I'm not doing anything funky with tags or anything. I haven't deviated from the stock toolset either.

EDIT: I also tried running the same .map file off a dedicated server running on my other computer. The server showed up in the serverlist and everything, but when I tried to join it, same problem.

So it's not a server-issue.

Still here because your site isn't active either.

What about removing the map you're trying to play from your maps folder and downloading the one that's on the server?

or the reverse

Just tried that. Also tried a fresh loader.dll from 'release.zip'.

Change ports? For the client or the server? And what would the port have to do with it?

I had this problem, here is the fix: Rename your map before compiling. Thats why I had bigassV1,82, V1,83 and so on.

What do I need to rename? Just the .scenario?

I'm sure this has something to do with the way HAC plays with map checksums (don't know much about it, I read it in the HAC 2 release thread at modacity).

Yes it does. If you want to join without renaming, you need to enter this command in console: hac_flush_cache

Okkkk so this is because the checksum for a map with name "abc" for example is cached from a previous version of the map with the same name?

So theoretically this issue will only be present on PC's running HAC that have run a previous build of the map (with the same name) (with HAC) and it is NOT something wrong with the map file itself?

I'm not sure but it's not that hard to rename scenario and recompile the map, is it?

No I suppose not, just trying to make sense of the issue. The console command worked btw thanks.

I mean you have to rename it before testing it with other people or releasing. Everything works fine as long as you play it offline.
