Ok, I know this is a pretty dumb question, but what plugin/program would I use to export custom first person animations?

Blitzkrieg for max 2008. Probably bluestreak for anything higher.

Blitzkrieg for max 8. Bluestreak for anything higher.

Bluestreak exports models, not animations.

For FP animations, http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=3627
try to use the compact version, as I heard that the regular version is somewhat broken for others. I've only used this on max versions up to 2010, so if you're on any max version higher than 2010, I can't guarantee that this will work for you.

Assuming you already have Halo Custom Edition and HEK, this is what you need to work with Halo:

3ds Max (I use 2010, but you can use whatever version you like)
http://students.autodesk.com/?nd=download_center (simply register and download student version)

GIMP
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

Kornman's HEK (optional)
http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=1081

Project BlueStreak (all three downloads)
http://ghost.halomaps.org/bluestreak/

CADs Animations Exporter (here is the animation exporter that you ased about)
http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=3627

{TLS} Udie's Sound converter (optional)
http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=2659

ah, sorry to bump an old thread. Every time I try to export an animation, it says "node indexing failed". What might be the cause of this?

It seems that removing all the fp arm bones makes it actually export. But now they won't compile.

You don't need to remove all bones... You need to have fp hand bones for fp anims.
