I hated those forms in halo wars. especially the little bat sheets.

As for the audio files, I want to listen to them. I love listening to hidden stuff from Halo 2.

Flood using our vehicles I've heard before. It's at the part where you get to that open room in QZ and if you kill everything slowly and don't pass a certain point the lite will say "The parasite controls our vehicles?, No matter they will die all the same." It's right before they say "commander, we found a human vehicle" "Keep moving im on my way".

I think I memorized Halo 2 a bit too much :P

If your still on the fence on getting voice acting to gravemind.

perhaps it's better with something like not giving it a voice
but rather it utters weird noises and you have short cutscenes that shows your next objective. Think of "Prototype" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bo41U9Fa6o

I think it'll add the overrall alien/parasitic atmosphere

Thinking about what we have planned for the Story, I think it will be necessary to include a voiced Gravemind. The extent to which he's voiced is something else however.

As I've mentioned before, I don't want him to be as chatty as Cortana. But there still needs to be dialogue cues discussing the areas you're moving through.

For example, if the Player was to move through an area with lots of locked up Flood, the Gravemind could order the Player to release more of the Flood to help.

A lot of what we have planned in terms of Story involves direct conversation between the Gravemind and the antagonists during the Campaign. There's not really much room for maneuver here.

I agree that there should be a voiced gravemind. If you think of the level 343 to the maw, the background of the flood went from individual mind, crazy, tentacle swinging flood into an organized group attacking ships. Like in the Maw ending (not Legendary) you see a group of them acting like a Hive mind mentality walking towards the ship. There's underlined progress as the infect more so the mumbling weird noises would maybe be the first 1/2 of released in my opinion. After that, it wouldn't make much sense.

For the love of God, do not make gravemind as chatty as cortana, I can handle cortana to an extent but unless she's swinging those funbags around like a detailed AI, she annoys me. I would try to nail it with the slow speaking but articulate voice. I've played some flood type missions so to speak with a gravemind voice and unless they're ripped form Halo 2 or 3, they sound like a prepubescent kid trying to lower his voice and it ends up sounding like donkey keeling over and dying in a desert.

Halo 3 maybe? I seem to remember the Flood having dialogue where the Gravemind would speak when the IWHBYD skull is active.

A lot of the effects for Gravemind come from voice editing anyway. You can really only do so much with your voice.

The last time we looked at the dialogue, we came to the conclusion that we'd need to dissect the existing Gravemind dialogue to see how Bungie put it all together.

I would have liked to have seen an in-depth Bungie Publication on Dialogue, it's a shame they didn't put one together.

There is this one however:

http://halo.bungie.net/images/Inside/publications/presentations/halo3audio.zip

I found some interesting information in it, if you're going to be working with sounds (music especially) I'd give it a read.

...Minus the childlike presentation of this answer, hes actually right. Have any of you played halo 3 recently? He blabs his mouth quite freqently through the combat forms.

Nope, never heard him say anything before I violently beat his minions to death.

A Gravemind is an mass of several beings. He doesn't have one set "voice" but all of those he has consumed to become a Gravemind. As Gravemind he exerts full control over the flood under him. I doubt the infection and combat forms think or speak for themselves... Seeing how quick Gravemind flipped the switch in h3 to aid his own means to stop the prophet by allying with the humans till the job was done.

I wish I had the ability to actually record, then I could point out the times that you can actually here him during combat with the flood... He really does talk through them. I'm not crazy.

As you can see, he talks through his minions, but they do not speak independently, which is why both tank forms seem to be talking.

your welcome.

I think the gravemind talks through them all, but since the gravemind can control multiple minds at once, they can all speak independently at different times in different situations (creating the illusion of free will), or all at the same time, which is why their "mouths" were synchronized in the cutscene.

BREAKING NEWS

Lone is permanently moving to the Himalayas in order to get in touch with his spiritual side. As such, he will no longer be part of the mod and I am now team leader.

Major changes are taking place under my rule: The first is that Open Sauce is now a requirement on all maps due to the excellent visual effects it produces.

Here is a preview of the latest development in our now visually stunning level, with geometry created by Lone before his journey of enlightenment began.

After a discussion with a rather obtuse panda Lone sent me a spiritual message from his abode in the Himalayas. Unfortunately it was discovered that OS had compatability issues with the large army of extremely small dwarves that had made an appearance on the map and had to be cut.

In all seriousness the "OS" image was a teaser image with a glow filter applied in paint.net and nothing to do with OS at all. Thought the whole "lone's gone to the himalayas" thing was a bit obvious.

The original image for those interested:
