"Anything pre 1968 will not be allowed into the tagset unfortuntely, since I feel it wouldn't be appropriate for halo, as it is creating modern day weapons for halo is questionable in other users eyes."

The Colt M1911 was introduced in 1911. The AK-47 was introduced in 1947. The Mossberg 500 was introduced in 1961. I don't see the reasoning excluding weapons that were manufactured before a certain date, because many older weapons still see use.

I feel that you should replace the AK-47 with the AKM (Introduced in 1959, the AKM and derivatives of the AKM are the most common AK variants in the world; they are often misidentified as AK-47's.) If you want an AK that was introduced post-1968, the AK-74 and/or AK-100 series would work.

I think this project is a great idea. It would be really nice to see people using more consistent weaponsets in their custom maps.

Your weapon models are looking great, I hadn't seen some of those yet.

btw, if you put your links within url tags than the links will be clickable (which is very convenient for lazy people like me )

@ echo77. The 1911 And the Ak are still being reproduced today, which is why I have included them, and to add to the fact they are both great weapons.

Thanks for your note about the AKM, I don't think I will substitute the 47 for it but if you want I can add the Akm to the list. Ill get back to you about it when I acquire references for it.

The AK-47 was only produced from 1949 to 1959. The AKM has been produced from 1959 to the present day. The two weapons are aesthetically similar, but the AKM is superior in practically every way. It also fits your post-1968 stipulation.

Great project idea, weapon variation will be a refreshing change.

can you add these?
smith&wesson model 629 .44 magnum
beretta 93r
atchisson AA-12

what part of creating the weapon tags are you going to need help with?
your creating the models...
textures?
animations?
sounds?
in-game characteristics? (projectile\fire rate\clip size\accuracy)

i can help with in game characteristics.

@Yoda

I would wager you are far more competent with halo then I am, it was like you were sent back in time to teach and get more people involved in halo.

Nice starwars updates. (I might have viewed them late)

_______________________________________________________________________________

@To all interested.

The 1968 rule is a little lame I admit, so I will reduce it to 1905. But I just want to put it out there.

We won't be putting Eotech sights and picatanny rails on old flintlocks!

It might be easier to just say "modern weapons" and then decide on a case by case basis if someone requests an addition to your list. That way you don't have to decide on an arbitrary date.

Than is an impressive list planned already. You certainly have your work cut out for you, good luck. (blegh... how did the famas make the list?)

Hmmm.... An Eotech sight on a flintlock..... Now isn't that a clever thought...........

NCC-1701? lol, I only use that profile name on moddb. I have always been Yoda everywhere else.

Nice additions. I really love the S&W 500 and the KSG.

btw... you have a .357 mentioned in your list.... might I suggest that you pick a specific .357? Either a S&W 686 or a Colt Python, those are my all time favorite .357s (I've handled both, but sadly I've never had the opportunity to fire either )

Isn't the Chiappa rhino in .357 form?

Also I'd like to say to all reading. We won't be starting immediately with cool, complicated weapons.

It would be more convenient for me, (and others) to start easy and small with boxy weapons then once we have gained enough experience we will move on to the more complicated curvy weapons. I.E. F2000, SG552, KSG

To start with Im planning two versions of the MAC-11. I have the classic varient modelled and unwrapped, the next stage is texturing.

Here is a link to the mac-11 files. (optimized, unwrapped)

If memory serves the Rhino comes in .357 mag (which also shoots .38) and .40 (which obviously must use half-moon clips)

I personally don't like the Rhino. It is a very strange design. It actually fires from the bottom cylinder and functions more like a striker fire handgun than hammer fire. Its sort of a good idea because it lines the barrel up with your forearm and makes the recoil more manageable. But it also means the internals are stupid complicated, which in my opinion is never a good thing on a gun. Besides that I'm told it has an awful trigger pull and you can't really customize the trigger without making it miserably unreliable.

I'd say make it a tiny bit smaller, other than that looking good. Can't wait to see animations for it.

BTW. The mac-11 has been fully textured and tagged, I just want to know what you all think about the FP view. (Anything I need to change before I get on animating?

Also what are thoughts an the size of the weapon?

The Mac-11 is 248mm long. The MA5B assault rifle is 876mm long.

Scaling the M6D magnum up by 33% gives you a model that's a foot long, so you could use that as a reference point from which you can scale the Mac-11 to it's proper length.

ok.
It lacks any detail whatsoever both in the model and the texture.

Actually I agree it could use a little more detail. Although judging from the other renders on his imageshack account it seems to have more on the left side. The right side is much less important as it is basically never seen. Mostly I think the texture is what needs work, the model seems to have the details it needs (some of them are kind of hidden by the texture though)

There is no need to be embarrassed about it. Its still better than most anyone else does around here

It just needs a little more definition around the edges. I think the model is probably fine (haven't looked at the file, but the pics on your image shack look good.), I would just touch up the texture a bit if I were you.

I already said.
There is a severe lack of detail and material definition.

@Yoda: I think your being overgenerous with your words :D

I've decided to scrap the model and restart, with a new one. Next week It should be ready hopefully.

@Maniac1000: Doing whatever makes you feel happy doesn't make it correct. So please give me some pointers on what needs improving.

While we are all waiting for that, and to keep interest flowing any thoughts on the newish vector I added? or the Tavor?

It looks much better. The only issue I see is that it's missing the front sight. There should be a front post that lines up with the rear peep sight.
