So as you may know I have been working on a replica of the Halo 4 HUD.
I have used assets from other HUD developers and halo 4 asset extraction. As reference
However most of the assets that will be used in final version will be made from scratch I am currently using sertin aspects as placeholders. I have used tags from halo 1 halo 2 halo 3 and
Jessie h3 HUD tags and p0aler bears h2 HUD tags along with danyvaderdays reference pictures for Halo4 hudcreation who is the original Halo 4 HUD creator. At 343.

I have also done an in depth study for heads up displays. And truth is its been a lot of work.

I wanted to start an official thread here in GC because I all ready have other threads in weapons and technical for help but I seem to be getting a lot of pm's from people saying that I should give them my HUD and why and how much they need it.

So I will say this when I am finished with my HUD project I will upload to halo maps for everyone to use.
But I see no point to release unfinished work. So please bare with me. As I try to finish this HUD project.
This HUD will not be like halo 4 it is a halo 4 replica but this HUD will be for Halo CE so keep that in mind....
Unlike the halo 4 HUD that is modeld in to the game this one is made using bitmaps. Only.
I have seen countless videos on You tube where people are using cropped pixlated dark version of some of my HUD assets.
I had to drop this project at one point and pick it back up again later. Sorry but IM back at it again... & trying to make the needed adjustments.

Its been a long process. Most of what you see in light blue is a placeholder. For assets to be added in the HUd,

yesterday I finally finished my shield meter and health meter in one.

Health and shields will both be displayed in the proper light bar on top
I have removed the game type icon from the HUD using a blanked out bitmap tag.
I did make proper game type icons but there seems to be no way to impute them

Currently IM using halo3 grenade types and numbers from the main menu as grenade and ammo counters.
I have also made new halo 4 type waypoint numbers. So sorry no picks of that...

So far I have seen couple maps using my shield meter and its missing the health part entirely.

This shows grenade low and ammo low blinking lights that will be sequenced and layered for a 3d effect in the HUD.

Keep in mind the blue lines will not be so apparent in the final version.
This pick was taken yesterday

And then today I got some more work done...
This shows the full health & shields 120% Finished!!! with grenades numbers fixed! The bar is now fixed with perfect fades!!! Outline even down to the very last pixel on both sides.
Note that OS HUD display scaling is on This HUD is made for wide screen's 16.9 & full
1920 x1080 Displays The Custom Rec is now centered with proper width on the Ar.. And the game type icon has been removed.

However I may add the game type icon back in.
I wish to know more about it if anyone has some in site?

Also just rebuilt my AR display shaders again. This tag will be released when finished also.



Hears all 3 with slight damage hit.



I still have a lot to update and fix It's WIP and its Differently starting to look good.
I am also working on a storm trooper HUD at the same time.:4

I would really like to know how to input my own game type background and game type icons but so far all I can do is remove them I would like to do custom post game carnage report as well which is also part of the shell bitmaps I remember the old method required some type of hex editing but I don't remember it?

However I was led to believe that OS would allow for this type of mod. I am trying to get the game type background and icons to be custom if anyone knows a way?

Agreed the campaign and multiplayer game play was a let down for me, but the assets will find there home in a much better game.

Hear is a little update on the storm trooper hud.

Now that I have the sw biped and other assets from Halo 4 hud creation it will be changing shape here soon. I'm plaing on using the outline from inside the bipeds helmet just like danyvaderday did with the mc's hud.. I'm plaing on making the huds compatabe with one another also so that storm troopers can use h4 weapons and vice versa. The shield and helth meter now working in one.

but the entire hud & shield will be changing shape quite a bit

Make new grenades
Make new weapon icons

Tone down the lines for the visor
Make a new motion sensor with more translucency and darker color

Do that, and you'll have a great H4 HUD copy!

I would personally model it in 3ds and then render out the elements, but whatever works for you.

This is the product of my all day long and some serious pixel work.

Still need to add the fades, numbers & range meter in there but the hard parts done.
had to extend the bottom to fit in CE.
even got the honey combs!!! XD

Think I'm going to have to move the rage meter though.
Remember blue lines wont be there.

Edit: well I Finished my DMR zoom scope it was like 100 hr's in photo shop. lol

Outlines are not straight black anymore there only about 2x4 pixels now and 50% transparent had to move the range meter it was in the hud and removed the word range to so I could keep my numbers and still use the same ones the HUD does. & keep them big and semi transparent.

because the zooms cant change color semi transparent black numbers didn't look so good on honeycombs... The color was nearly mandatory as no other color really seemed to look right.. so I de sided to go with a dark green color instead of black or blue for the range meter.



oddly I check show only when zoomed but the ranger meter shows up when I'm not zoomed as well =S

I think I have explained very well where the blue placeholder and other elements of the HUD came from. I have also explained what I am using as a base and placeholder and I have been on the forums showing my progress ever sense I first started the project in march.
As it seems there is a blue outline of the h4 hud on deviantart but that is not my HUD

its actually. not that dark when I'm not facing black glass. I just did that so you could actually see the hud instead of a slight blurr.

That's how it should look like. Also, shouldn't the helmet pieces be part of the FP arms so it can be animated and have lighting applied? If you need to save polies, you could make the helmet pieces part of a bitmap on a flat plane. Then again you wouldn't be able to switch the FOV without problems...

1. This is for halo1 not halo4!
2. h4 sp hud and mp hud are totally different.
3. halo 1 health and shields don't regenerate like in halo4! on that note I have taken a turn and scraped the h4 color theme entirely and decided to go with traditional halo1 color's after all this is the game the HUD is for.

4. who says 343's work is what it should look like? I think this HUD. looks far better in CE.
5. xbox360 was limited to 720 aspect rasio and then stretched to hd. where as a pc version of halo 4 it would not be.
6. modling the hud in is a consept I have tried to do but it does not work as the only way to do it would be to use bone 24 and everyone uses bone 24 to animate there weapon.
on the fp hands so if someone wants to tell me a way around that I may consider modling it in. I have alredy started... but/.
The Metroid online maping team got away with it only because the fp arms don't actually. have to move.
I would love to model the helmet in but so far the consept is at a dead end.
Also a lot of the ellemets I am using came directly from 343i as this is how they first intended the hud to look like.

keep n mind this is not halo 4 graphics . you know.
the pictures I am posting are just wip nothing is final I have done a lot of experimenting.
I am really digging the glassly look in this picture.

Also u can see I have the helmet part properly scaled.
I have built most of the hud in to the radar foreground & Background. so that the proper parts can be removed while zooming in on your weapons using an os yelo tag.
Essentially this is what you would see if zoomed along with the zoom mask overlay.

wat. 343 does, they developed the game.
That's the problem. 343i where AMATURE designers and grapic artist's hired buy Bungie to make the game most of witch came directly out of video game school. Some of witch didn't even like halo. they where all cod and mw2 fans. That's a problem!
some do it for money where others do it for the love of the game.

You have no idea how aspect ratio works do you? Widescreen resolutions are either 16:9/16:10, this includes the resolutions 720x480,1168x748,1280x720, and 1920x1080. It would never be "stretched". it would be cut-off at 4:3 fullscreen resolutions; 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768.
Not for all xbox games. It is stretched from 720p Images. to full hd. The xbox upscales images.

Exactly & HALO CE does not! We have both just said the same thing.
& I was talking about the images displayed not the resolution.
I don't really care to argue this to be quite Honist I could care less.
