Hey guys!

Seeing as I have been to hell and back with making a map recently, I wish to create a decent multiplayer map for the halo maps community.

I'd like to design a level primarily for game nights and would love to get myself more involved in the community.

Due to lack of understanding in level design rather than modelling I wish to ask for your opinions on what you think makes a great playing map.

Just some general questions along with your responses:

Would you guys like vehicle or infantry combat?

What kind of terrain? Beaches,clifds ,mountains?

Overall size of the map?

I like infantry more than vehicle.

I think something like Valhalla or Timberland would be nice.

I personally prefer medium sized map.

Pitch black hallways with no HUD. The hallways would be lit barely enough so you could see where you are going. Everyone would have invisibility.

The only way you could really see anyone is if you have a really sharp eye or you see gunfire.

A map with a good full custom hud or perhaps a map where players play as something else other than Spartans (like elites/Odst/marines/somethingcustom!). There isn't a lot HQ maps with these.

That would actually be kind of cool.If like there were blackouts through out the game.I don't know whether switching light maps is possible though.

Scenery won't have shadows that way.

Not a problem if there were no scenery. Just threw that idea for teh lolz.

You could control that type of lighting with just small or low power decals Cheddars,

I personally like medium sized maps that can give good opportunity for both infantry combat and a small amount of vehicular combat as well. The map should give all kinds of options as well, from long range to cqb.

Asymmetrical combat could be interesting. Something like D-Day, with one team defending a fixed position, and another taking landing craft up onto the beach to attack said position.

why not a assymetrical Zanzibar map? halo 2 has a custom one called holiday grave. pretty sweet

Maps where vehicles actually might have a tactical advantage rather than being thrown in with a ton of mumbo-jumbo. IE like 2 warthogs and maybe a tank in the middle, rather than 6 warthogs, 4 mongooses, 4 ghosts, 2 tanks, and 2 banshees on an 8v8 server.

Small infantry map with vertical gameplay and focused on King of the Hill.

-OR-

Medium-sized assymetrical 2-Flag-CTF map mainly focused on infantry but with 1-2 vehicles per team. Think Zanzibar/High Ground, but with both teams having roughly the same chance of capturing/defending the flag. Tough to design, but there's potential for lots of replay value if done right.

A Medium-small, asymmetrical, multi-storied, slayer map.

Close-quarters inside a flood-infected cave/ship.

Vehicle-crates and everyone plays as flood.

Personally, i would like to see a Team Fortress 2 map ported here (with the Halo style, of course)

Something like ctf_2fort or ctf_turbine might be excellent..

large open field map with some buildings perfect for snipers. It should have multiple types of snipers and a secret weapon(gauss sniper). It should be hard to get to the secret weapon.

3+ access points to the flag makes a great ctf map, the advantage has to be given to the flag seeker. it doesnt matter how pretty the map and bases are, if you've got a base with only 1 or 2 access points then it's just too easy for the flag protectors to camp and too frustrating for the flag seekers.
id like to see 'savior', i know some people have some versions of it, but id like to see it completed and released.
some halo 3 maps id like to see made would be 'rats nest', 'guardian', 'construct' and 'stand off', and of course 'valhalla' when -grunt eater- re-releases -slappy the pirates'- effort.

Something original. Like, not-in-the-Halo-universe original. Doesn't even matter if it plays well or looks good, I just wanna explore something new and interesting.
