Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand Blur was amazing in Halo Wars and really helped tie that game's campaign together, on the other all of the main series Halo games have had in-engine cut-scenes, so these pre-rendered ones feel a bit out of place.

I feel like the amazing cgi is going to make the ingame graphics look outdated, thus being completely counterproductive to 343's goal, and detracting from the experience.

Shoulda just redone the cutscenes ingame like CEA, it still would've looked phenomenal. I mean they could've literally just taken blur's animations and models, put them ingame, and the experience would be seamless and still look great.

Don't get me wrong though, blur did an amazing job. These cinematics are jaw-dropping. I like how the DOF and lens flares (along with the high amount of detail and varied color palette) give these a very surrealistic feel, rather than opting for a more realistic look like halo 4's cinematics, which is drab.

It's interesting to compare this to Blur's previous work, Halo Wars.

Personally, I'm more of a fan of the elites in HW

Check out the mandible designs and how they are attached to the face, there was a thread a while back here about how H4 changed it. It seems they have taken the H4 model and revised it for the Arbiter.

They went with CG cutscenes so that players would be able to switch graphics during cutscenes.

Yeah, but if it's anything like H4 they use the same assets for the cutscenes and then optimized ones for ingame.

Glad to see someone besides me who likes the H4 Elites. I thought the H3 elites were cuddly, which isn't really good for killer alien badasses.

I think she looks awesome. They didn't opt for making her look hot, which is great. She looks like a real person, and you can definitely tell she's Keyes' daughter just by looking at her. I think they nailed it. Now Johnson, on the other hand...

They aren't Halo 3 styled? They have more in common with H2 than anything else.

Halo reach characters >>> pretty much everything.

Grunts look flawless, Hunters are big moving tanks and Elites are big, nasty alien killers. In the other games, you couldn't notice how tall and built-up they were... in Reach, you can actually recognize the race that can lift a soldier with a single hand, like here https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=aOw5_G11yTU#t=109.

Inb4: halo reach arbiter is quite similar to a brute. Yeah, but the other elites aren't really small, if you notice.



I do think the Reach elites were the best, by far.

And compared to halo 2 (below), I think it looks cooler.
