So I was able to play a .bik video file using OS's script: play_bink_movie (thingy).bik
The bik just has to be in the "\Halo Custom Edition" Folder. Not the tags/data folder.

The thing with this is that anything that isn't 720x480 resolution creates an exception :( .
There is also that cuddy mess to the right, which isn't isn't there when being played from anything else.
I have seen people replace the bungie.bik file in the past. Not sure what those resolutions are. I used RAD video tools to convert my videos to a .bik. I tried starting from an avi, wmv, and mp4 so far. Sound quality doesn't seem to be causing anything wrong, just resolution.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the .bik files regarding halo or if anybody can contact OS developers or anyone with knowledge and understanding of halo's engine. That seems a bit demanding but I want to know if this function for halo/OS is being developed or if this function is not being worked on at all.

If halo could play these .bik files at a higher resolution then pre-recorded cinematics can exist! Think of how fun that would be (though halo seems more halo like if the cinematics are in game, but still... )!

As far as I know, the vid needs to be at 640x480 to be played by Halo. Source material format does not seem to matter.

That's what I got while replacing the biks that normally come with Halo.

This is from my own testing with the xbox version of Halo. These settings make absolutely perfect replacement videos.

General video settings:

Resolution: 640x480
Frame rate: 29.97 fps

Bink converter settings:

Video:

Compress to Data Rate(bytes): 850000
Contrast: 4
Smooth: 0
Black clamp: 4

Audio:

Compress level: 100 (this is to force it to use the old xbox codec compatible with Halo)
Frequency rate: 44100hz,
Bit-rate: 16-bit/stereo

I don't believe you can. You'd have to include the bik file with the map download so when the script plays it can read the file.

You don't put bik files in maps, you put them in the halo folder (or some place)

That fixed the funny looking left side of the video, thanks. It is a darn shame it is a lower resolution.
From where I am I can't really do much else in terms of video quality. Need some changes to the halo engine most likely.

and thankyou for the hugs and kisses.
