It's nice to see someone working on a updated HEK, I definitely would recommend making it OS compatible tho, considering all the high profile works, save a few(like SOI), are using OS.

Regardless, this sounds awesome.

Btw does zeus have game window just like sapien?

First poster! :D
All I hope for in this Zeus project is a total replacer for Sapien, I been really wanting to fix old Sp files that tags need updated or just replaced to make CE look nicer and seem more organized "Yes I have OCD", but with being a win 8.1 user and soon to be win 10, I hope that this will be a great new alternative...

So long story short, is this planed to be on Win 8\.1 or will this still "sadly" be designed around a Win Xp\98 platform?

Have you tried running HEk and its partner programs in Win 8, Its a hassle. And trying to get Sapien to run is a joke....

All I want is an easy open and edit then play program that doesn't make me want to hurt something small. That's all....

Yeah, he made an UI with probably no code behind it and "reversed" some tags with a hex editor, I used to do these kind of stuffs too when I was 15. Such a pro coder, wonder why MS didn't hire him already. Maybe 5 more years and he will release an actual program that can open a .weapon file and change a number. Paid version will even have a save button.

It's kind of funny how he's bsing here since 5 years and there are still some people who actually believes a word for him. :/

I have just two doubts:

1) You said Zeus will make you able to bypass the HEK limitations like open edges, maximum string list numbers etc. Will this make the maps more unstable, and cause more exceptions? Because right now that sounds just like a revival of ToolPro. Also, will we be able to ignore the maximum tagspace limit with Zeus?

2) Will Zeus allow us to compile sounds in Xbox ADPCM compression even on W7 and beyond? Or are you aiming for an universal solution?

(The numbers are in reverse tag type order, starting with wphi and ending with actr).

Regarding the hex editor work, it was intriguing to go through the tag types; the person who developed Guerilla (I forgot his name, it's somewhere on the Bungie web site) was probably the one who made some changes to the way structs are handled over a period of time. Reflexives are handled differently, and seem to change in the order in which I reverse-engineered them, culminating in the most "mature" approach provided, as with the later HUD-related tag types where you have multitexture overlays and effectors. I got the feeling of teamwork in the development of these things, as if there were one or two main coders and they changed how to organize reflexive chunk data along the way. Along those lines, I kind of don't want to bother going back over the first few tags to revise variable names that don't really need revision -- I also streamlined my code, using shorthand notation like "tpns" for tag pathname string(s) in comments and "// 20" to indicate 20 bytes of zero padding at particular spots.

So I could reduce the lines of code, but since it is mostly pre-compiler code like comments, it won't really matter.

sshers, sparky is a halo modder. not a cryengine modder. also modding games without being allowed to normally results in bans from their servers so have fun.
