I also uploaded the 3dsmax files and tags here in case anyone wants to make a mod: neo5_src.zip

After playing beta4 once a week for 3 month here comes beta5, which is just a maintenance release, basicly just fixing all the gameplay issues.













beta 4:







beta 3:
In essence Neophobia_beta3 is about the triumph of spring over the cold dark winter night.
While on blue side it's still cold and icy because most of the land lies in the shadows of the mountains...



... on red side the first sun rays are melting the snow and flowers begin to blossom.



Can you spot the jajaja in this picture?



Awww you should have waited a little longer before trying the jump. Statistically speaking you will die alot on this map.



Last thoughts: "Oh an overshield, I'll just jump over the hole and take it, what could happen anyway..."



Look how happy this sniper is on that bridge with almost no cover ... spoiler alert: He'll die soon.



Textures are place holders for now, first I need to get the basic geometry, level design and gameplay in order before I'm going to spend time on textures.

This is my first map that I plan to release some day, I've been working on it since 2012 and I'm very bad at the whole thing obviously, therefore most of the things are just ripped out of stock maps.

The biggest inspirations were the maps Cliffhanger, I just love the verticality, Fissure Falls, that constant momentum is just great, and Sidewinder because of the almost instant action after you spawn both tops and tuns.

I would really love for someone to check it out and give suggestions on how to make the map better.

Credits:
Flowers are taken from Project Lumoria, Sky in parts from Cliffhanger and the colored tps are made by Arteen.
Rest probably made either by Gearbox or Bungie ;)

Yeah, actually this map had a pretty sad start, beta1 was build in 2012 but first played only in 2015. Basicly a 3 year break inbetween.

But it has potential, at least beta2 was very playable, I hope I didn't harm the overall balance with beta3 too much.

It's so easy to completely wreck the gameplay even by little changes, I wonder how many hours Bungie play tested the stock maps. Would love to see some earlier version of those just for fun.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions so far. :)

Everyone here is considered a "play tester"; official releases are few, since the community is relied upon to help polish.

One thing that definitely needs to be added is a teleporter from low to the top again, so when you're on foot low you don't have to walk forever up hill ...

Good use of (mostly) stock assets. I love seeing maps using the original assets, especially when the maker tries to adhere (deliberately or not) to the original art direction.

I'll give it a whirl sometime soon and give more detailed feedback.

I would avoid the use of that death flare thing. It doesn't sync and players will be dying for seemingly no reason while jumping over that.

I love environmental hazards, even better if there unforeseeable and random. xD
That is as long as the beam emitter doesn't create any lag, in that case I will remove it.

In other news: Neophobia_beta3 is now available on HAC2, I hope it will also be available on halomaps soon.

Some CTF routes and their times:


The two fastest routes are with a hog, all the on foot routes take pretty much the same time and are about 10 seconds slower compared to the hog routes.
Ofc you can also combine the routes with each other.

So no matter in which direction you go you should have an enemy encounter after about 15 seconds.

The biggest change compared to beta3 are the added teleporters, 6 in total which should speed up the gameplay on the map quite a bit. I took the inspiration from the teleporter in Ratrace that allows you to jump from one end of the map to the other.

Some of the routes now also have added detail such as small height differences to make the map more interesting and also to separate the on foot routes from the hog routes.

All in all the map now seems like a combination of Cliffhanger, Ratrace and Putput.

There's something wrong with the server, after playing for a few minutes everyone gets 'game has closed down' and server restarts.

Time for a small update: Download Neophobia_beta5

I mainly fixed gameplay issues that were present in beta4.











I hope you all will enjoy the map, which also has a really fun race track btw.

We only play the best custom maps and always have a full server.
