The SPV3.0.1 patch is coming out later this week, and subsequently the tags from it as well. We are looking for people who are interested in using the tags to test it throughly so we can make sure there is no broken references when we parse mission specific tags and Part 2 content.

Isn't it riskay outsourcing testing to basically what amounts to strangers......?

Or do you have damage control already setup?

Well everything being given to them is going to be released to the public once it is verified it is working and nothing is missing. So even if it "leaks" it is inconsequential. The testing is to make sure your average joe isn't downloading partial content.

Next week we should have the tagset out. You can check out the SPV3.0.1 beta here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/rf8jaf8a44dc2j8/SPV3.0.1_Beta.rar

Just drop it into your halo CE folder alongside SPV3.0.0 and you should be good to play.

Check the readme for the changes that need to be verified.

It was always something cool that we were happy to finally have, but ultimately inconsequential to the mod other than "look what we have." That said, we did announce it was on the chopping block before but kept it in due to some vocal outcries about it.

However, the way the back end scripts for our vehicles work requires there to be scripts that get plugged into each vehicle. So early on, this was set to ghost and wraith updates, with them both tying into the EMP functions, the ghost a boost script, and then each one had individual boarding scripts, which later were removed as we were granted a tag based extension to do that. The only reason that there were still update scripts for each vehicle (and later the shadow and the banshee plugged into the ghost update script) was for the ghost boost, which provides no real function in gameplay, and bloats our scripts in a way that was unneeded. With the addition of the skulls and terminals late in development, the maps became less stable than we wanted, and this SHOULD shift it back to being more stable.

There were also some issues with people getting out of maps and finding devices and weapons we used for certain scripts since we ran out of global objects, and people messing with these could also destabilize the game.

There was also the issue that since the ghost in H1 doesn't splatter enemies other than spartans and hunters, and the perception many had was to run over enemies with the boost. Splatters with the ghost was not something we wanted to do, and we thought we could curb the schizophrenic message we were giving players about it by removing the boost.

I'm sorry what
Also the ghost not splattering enemies has something to do with either the collision model or the bounding radius, right? If the whole model is collidable the stock ghost becomes a much more fun vehicle to drive.

Oh we could easily fix it to splatter any enemy, but if we did we'd have to change it's speeds and strafing abilities, none of which we want to do. The ghost works best as a quick hoverbike for fast attacks, we're not interested in making it into a ram with guns as H2 foolishly did to try to encourage more boarding.

Also note that if making it run over all sorts of enemies is in fact an ability we want to give it, the boost would have to absolutely have to be removed as we can't have an encouraged method of attack be so glitchy and buggy.

I think it's important to underline that masterz's strong views regarding "ramming" are undoubtedly the product of that horrific incident which happened oh so many years ago.

It is in fact so terrifying i'm at a loss to form a cohesive sentance to describe the tragic event without inevitably dropping to the floor in a puddle of my own tears.

I barely even have the willpower to show you all but never the less I must try...dammit I must try.

If you have any reasoning as to why the changes from the ghost from 1->2 were for the better I'd love to hear it. As far as I can tell, they changed it due to either needing a way for the ghost to splatter people better with the change in collision damage, or wanted people to try and splatter more on purpose so people could board them.

Either way, the ghost is no longer a fast combat vehicle, and then just was either good for limited combat or racing around.

The reasoning around it seems more about trying to make it showcase a new feature, rather than being good overall.

It's pretty much the only way to do it, when the tags are released people can look into the animations and see if they can find a better way of getting the enter and exit animations to work.

Totally different issue, the prior one is due to someone doing sloppy work on the BSP, the second is just the marines trying to get into the seat radius.

Your document was reviewed and the majority of your reported problems that have not been addressed are unfixable or planned to be addressed at a later date. If you can approve me for editing your document, it would be helpful so I can annotate it.

...can't the same argument be said for armor abilities or skulls?

I am referring to the ability of us being able to do a boost, not OS features.

Either way, Skulls are something done through the games default capabilities, but are a non critical gameplay element for a niche set of users. It ultimately doubles ( whatever it is for 5... pentuples?) the replay value for those who are interested in them.

Armor abilities came into existence because we should do them, but ultimately the ones we wanted to do provided what we thought were new twists on existing gameplay. While some had to be cut, the ones we went with all focus on some aspect of enhancing an aspect of the players playstyle. The VISR enhances the players visual awareness, the regen provides limitted extra durability against some weapons (the inclusion of the shredder and savage covenant's have bonus's vs the players health) as well as encourages the players to engage in more CQB, and Sprint helps with evasion and moving around some of the larger environments better. Regrettably, Sprint is not quite as seamless as we wanted it to be, but at the end of the day SPV3 is a proof of concept of how Halo could have evolved, and sprint from a design standpoint works better than it did in any other title (IMO).

SPV3.0.1 Livestream. If this all goes fine, patch will be out tomorrow and tagset release to testers this weekend.

Please do watch as the more eyes there are to pick out bugs the better.
