Alrighty then. Let's get back on track.


My new map that I made. The grass UV is fine but the Cliff texture is not fine. In 3dsmax it looks fine but in game it looks terrible. Also, Is there any crit on this map that you guys can post. It's my first map that I hope to finish.

I'm sure you could spend more polies on the cliffs than that.
Try tesselating the cliff faces and using soft selection to get them jagged.

I said ironic three times, what is that supposed to mean? Again, if that is your only argument, then you have a big problem. You can't tell me how I am being a hypocrite yet I can site many times of you showing hypocrisy.

Yeah, I have no idea what is wrong with them. It just doesn't feel Halo and feels like Minecraft, as Kinnet said. Can someone help me fix them?

Look at how terrain shaders were done in original maps like BloodGulch. Use base and detail maps to reduce the tiling and add more variety.

Ok. I played around with the shader tag and copied the settings and I got this result.



This is just for the grass. IDK I t might look the same. I added the a30 cliff rock bump map to it.




Yeah, kinda looks the same... especially the cliffs.



I went into max and optimized my model. I collapsed verts that I didn't need. I got this result.





I will start to work on the terrain and possibly some inside structures. This map is meant to be a Halo 1 type map, that means it needs to be something that Bungie would actually make. More help would be helpful. I would love to get this actually finished.

Apart from the lack of vertices in your cliffs (seriously, you can make them more deformed and still keep the whole map optimized, your Halo won't kill you for that) I think you're doing your UVs in the wrong way. Keep in mind that in Halo the detail and bump maps of the cliffs are repeated, so the cliffs will look different in-game. Anyway, I'd suggest you to do that in the quickest way:
1) Add an Unwrap UVW modifier to your mesh
2) With that, select the faces you want to map, and use a projection that fits your desires (Planar, Cubic etc.)
3) Now open the UV Editor and see how your faces are placed on your texture. Play with that until you're satisfied

There are way better ways to make UVs, but at least this will lead you somewhere (If you're already doing that, scrap out all I wrote)

Also, you may have a "texture repeat" coefficient in your shaders that is too high, because I can still see the cliff textures, although EXTREMELY small
