For some reason Refinery doesnt work for me. I installed MEK correctly.(download python,check add to path,run MEK installer etc) only a handful of programs work for me and refinery doesnt work. the command prompt stays open doing nothing

This issue seems to be occurring for lots of people for some reason, so I figured it's time to tell everyone what's going on and how to manually fix this.

Python has a package manager called Pip, and the MEK_Installer calls on it to look for the packages that my library depends on. For some reason(I think it might be due to a version naming convention), Pip is using an old version of some of the libraries, even when there are new versions available. Pip's job is more or less to find those packages, download them, and install them to python's site-packages folder so python apps can find and use them.

Here are steps to manually download the newest versions and install them. It's not hard or complicated.

1: Locate your python installation folder and in it go to "Lib\site-packages\"(mine is "C:\Python35\Lib\site-packages"). If you've already run the MEK_Installer and it completed you should see at least these 4 folders in there: binilla, mozzarilla, reclaimer, supyr_struct.

2: Delete those 4 folders and any folders that look like them, but with a bunch of other crap on the end(like binilla-2017.4.17.dist-info)

3: Download the most up to date versions of each of those 4 from my Bitbucket repositories:

4: Unzip them to the site-packages folder and make sure to rename them to binilla, mozzarilla, reclaimer, and supyr_struct.


This should fix the problem, and should make it so you can update just fine from now on. Alternatively, I think I might've just fixed the issue, so you're welcome to try the running the update function of the installer with "force reinstall" again.

Thanks so you so much but just one more problem. i have extracted tags from spv3 pillar of autumn map but it doesnt load on sapien i have the original halo ce tags btw. sapien just says that it couldnt load

Wierd I've seen your spv3 covenant vs halo ce covenant vid on youtube. how did you manage to get spv3 tags? or did you use tsc:evolved tagset. the tsc:evolved tagset never works for me. In fact any OS tagset never works. sapien wont load any of them. and when it does load them and i test the map in halo ce, it crashes. also ive read the instructions about where to put tsc tags. ive also extracted every original singleplayer map from halo

Thanks but this might be a stupid question. I cant find OS sapien or guerilla anywhere on google. i can only find a OS plugin for HEKplus. can you give me a link. How do you get them

when you install open sauce, it gives you the option for the OS_HEK.

CMT's BSP and Scenario tags will also required their CMT hacked version of OS_Sapien in order to open. You should be able to add their weapon tags without it.

Even with CMT's hacked HEK set, it still crashes from corrupted tags fairly often. The game engine can handle a lot of bad snips of code running that the editor can't control.

Yeah, OS extraction IS implemented into Refinery, but it's not 100% perfect. I'm not exactly sure where it's at, but if I had to make an educated guess I'd say around 90% minimum. If you can get the original OS tags from somewhere, use those. Refinery should only be used to get OS tags as a last resort. Certain maps rip just fine(bigass is actually a yelo map in disguise and it recompiles), but others I've tried dont have the same luck.

Also, did I manage to fix the update feature of the MEK_Installer for you, or did you just download and manually install the packages?

Refinery and my MEK tools in general have received a few updates. Any OGG sound tags saved with mozz before this might not work properly in sapien, but will be fine ingame. This update will fix that so mozz wont partially break sounds any more. FtdSpartan and I have deduced this has affected some of CMT's sounds, such as for some of the "ready" animations. I guess this is what happens when you're working with bleeding edge technology lol. Again, this only affected ogg sounds, and they'll still work fine ingame.

There are other changes as well, and Refinery is now capable of extracting open sauce maps in a mostly bug free state. Refinery is even capable of extracting CMT's The Silent Cartographer Evolved and having tool recompile it without any noticeable bugs. The only issue I've noticed is that something in the cmt/postprocess/gameplay/visr_nv causes the game to crash if the tag isn't nulled out, so I've still got work to do with it.

If you had previously encountered sound or animation related errors after extracting with Refinery, try it again after running the mek's updater. I've made some changes to Refinery itself(not just my Halo libraries), so you will need to re-download refinery from the mek. You can grab the MEK here:

Refinery has been updated again with a fix that will enable it to properly extract shader_postprocess_generic tags(visr now works when recompiling b30_evolved)

Also, the MEK installer has been upgraded, so grab the new v1.3.0 from the mek repository. I've modified refinery and the installer so now the installer can update it without you guys having to re-download it from the MEK. You'll need to grab the modified Refinery.py and Mek_Installer.py from the MEK, but after that you'll only need to run the updater to get updates to Refinery.

Sure, but I dont need power because i can follow rules, unlike a certain someone who followed me to a completely different forum and vented his frustration that he broke rules and was banned accordingly. I wonder who that was...

Refinery v1.4.5 is out. Run the mek installer's update feature to get it.

New in v1.4.5:

* multiple map support
* full open sauce resource map support
* partial halo 2 map support
* ability to switch between ripping tags and ripping data FROM tags.
Data is ripped to the "data" directory.
Bitmaps are ripped to dds.
Sounds save to wav/wma/ogg depending on format.
Xbox adpcm sounds have the option to be
decoded to 16-bit pcm(it's slow though)
* recursive extraction
* reorganized settings menu
* ability to sort tags by path, index_id, and pointer
* lots of bug fixes

Thank you for making this, especially the recursive extraction and opensauce support. I'm glad I don't have to manually input every field recreating os tags via tool. Is there any plans to implement working script extraction?

Maybe. I DO have a light understanding of the script bytecode AND the source code to the halo script extractor. No plans to right now though. I think I'm gonna slow down on my MEK programming for a while, so anything I do implement from now on will be slower to see the light of day.

Hey MOE thanks for the update!!! the extraction of spv3s maps worked alot better than before however it didnt extract all of the tags. refinery, on the first spv3 map, extracted 3835 tags out of 4766 tags. its around 80 percent of the tags. the reason why is because i looked at some of the tags in the extraction log and it said that i couldnt get their "meta" and some of the tags were undefined. i dont know what either of these mean. does this mean that some of the tags are trash or useless. help plz

Can you actually PLAY spv3 with how you have it set up? your folder structure should look like this:

maps\
data_files\
-bitmaps.map
-loc.map
-sounds.map
bitmaps.map
loc.map
sounds.map
ui.map
spv3a10.yelo
any_other_spv3_maps

If your folder setup is not like that, it wont be able to locate the spv3 specific bitmaps, loc, and sounds maps in the data_files folder. It will look there first and if it fails to find them it will default to the regular bitmaps, loc, and sounds maps, which WILL be missing tags.

The size of the spv3 bitmaps, loc, and sounds maps are 1,933,915Kb, 668Kb, and 530,612Kb respectively. The non-spv3 versions are 120,653Kb, 383Kb, and 40,741Kb respectively.
