I Am The Monument To All Your Sins

I have noticed that all models that have weapon animations have something like stand pistol aim-still,stand look and other overlays but they are twisted, weird and most seem to only have 9 frames. What do they do and since I am working on a custom animation I think I might need them so how do I make them.
