I.
Have.
Returned!

Anyway, here is my updated campaign mod, with a more proper balance to weapons so that it isn't as easy or unsatisfying as the first version. Most of the changes found in Version 1.0 still apply to this mod, but there are a few significant differences. For instance, the Assault Rifle can no longer score headshots, and the Pistol is no longer fully automatic. The Battle Rifle now fires at a rate of only 3 rounds per second, but it has had its damage output increased to make it feel more like the OP pistol of the Vanilla game. As of AOTCR, Hunters are no longer vulnerable to headshots. Thanks to the Refined Campaign tagset, levels b40 onward have proper fog and water tags for their environments. The Sentinel Beam is now usable in The Library and Two Betrayals. I have also found a new hud msg icon tag set and will be implementing it in my older 1.5 maps after I finish d40. For level d20, I have added some goodies in the form of equipment drops when certain enemies die, such as health packs and overshields. This may seem odd, but when playing on Legendary, these can be extremely helpful, as there are certain spots where the player will lose most of their health when dealing with enemies. As level d40 has now been posted, I am returning to the previous levels to begin work on version 1.5.2 of the mod to incorporate changes that I should have implemented from the start. Other changes will be listed as I continue editing the mod.

Following the upload of level d40, I am now in the process of editing and uploading version 1.5.2 of levels a10 - d20, which will all feature new weapon icons with proper transparency, the new Battle Rifle tags that I've been using from c10 onward, a widescreen video mask, and a few other tweaks here and there. These links will remain in this thread because this is what I should have done for version 1.5 from the start. Also, please know that 1.5.2 versions will be replacing the 1.5.0 versions.

[05/29/2019]Update again... I have just discovered the widescreen video mask found in the Refined tag set, which fixes a lot of problems that occur when moving around in areas with low lighting throughout game. This means that ALL levels will be receiving a 1.5.2 update, including the ones I said I wouldn't be updating. Also, the Sentinel Beam will be receiving a minor upgrade in regards to a longer battery life in the levels where it appears, and I have also found a new targeting reticle for it, so I will be updating levels c20, c40, and d40 again. Oh, and I will be toning down the firing rate of the fuel rod grunts on c40 as well.

[Update on 06/03/2019] Having discovered and implemented a usable energy sword for level a50, in addition to the fixed sniper rifle scope in a30, I will once again be updating the last three levels of the game to feature these changes. However, these levels will be fixed last, as I still need to give levels b30 - c20 the 1.5.2 updates first.

[Update on 07/03/2019] The Sword will also be usable in all subsequent levels following a50 (including d20 and d40 if possible), except c10 and c20, as no living Elites appear in those two levels.

[Update on 07/10/2019] Following the discovery of a Halo 2 era SMG weapon model and tagset, I will be editing all levels featuring the SMG once again in order to make sure that all levels are consistent. Plus, the new SMG file doesn't have audio that cuts out randomly. Guess what, Masterz? I'm finally getting rid of that SPV2 SMG model! I never liked it much anyway. I've always preferred the Halo 2 version.

Following my uploading of version 1.5.2 of levels c40 - d40 and versions 1.5.3 of levels a10 - a30, I will being working on version 1.75 of my mod, which will incorporate all of the harsh lessons I've learned so far. Version 1.75 will not see any downloads posted until I am 1/2 of the way done with it, however, for quality control reasons. See you next time, Space Cyborg...

Special thanks to Storm und Blackbird for mentioning this mod in their CE Now videos!

Here's a quick look at the fixed sniper scope from a30!

I don't know how to resize images online.

[06/06/2019 by 11:35 pm] Also, here's something that happened during a play-test of my 1.5.2 build of Level b40.

I just wanted to share this with everyone for fun. You gotta love the physics of Halo CE.

[Update on 07/05/2019] Hey, check THIS out!

That's a Jackal Ultra with a Battle Rifle. Thanks to DeadHamster's teachings, I can now unleash all sorts of unspeakable horrors upon those who play my mod! And all of this is possible WITHOUT the use of OpenSauce. Oh, I'll get to using OpenSauce and making .yelo maps eventually, but I'd like to see how far I can push pure vanilla tag modding first.

Hi BioGoji,

I'm not one for commenting on forums usually, but I made an account especially to thank you for this mod! To me, this is the perfect campaign mod - it keeps the look, feel and nostalgia of the original campaign, but lots of nice refinements, like some of the classic weapons from the other games that still feel true to the original art style. Also, I love how you remastered the sounds as well.

A few minor points as constructive criticism though. Chief's armor is a little too shiny in my opinion, and also is not consistent with the first person view model. When you hover over a new weapon, the image isn't completely transparent, so you see a small rectangular outline of the weapon image. Lastly, the sniper scope isn't completely consistent with the elevation tickers on the side.

One last think I wanted to point out to you if you really want to make this a masterpiece. A team of people restored all the mistakes made in the port to the original Xbox game. It is called Halo: Combat Evolved Refined. Here's the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/HaloCERefined/comments/9lpf14/halo_combat_evolved_refined/

All of their assets are unlocked, so if you have the time or desire, you could use those as your stock campaign maps you modify.

Anyhow, I think this mod is awesome and it's the most fun I've had with Halo in a long time. I'm sure this is blasphemous here, but I think this is way better than SPV3 in terms of play-ability and simplicity. Just one person's opinion, but I have lots of gratitude for what you've come up with here!

Peace brother and keep up the great work.

For a second or two I definitely thought this was posted yesterday.

Either way; this looks fantastic. Sorry this was overlooked BioGoji, really good work. Excited to see the current project you've been working on.

Edit: Crap you've been posting tons of updates.

I love you, BioGoji. 1.5.2 is perfect now. Can't believe more people haven't noticed this project or how great your work is. Can't wait for the remaining maps!!!

*Nearly perfect*

A few small things:

1. The shield effects for elites for the SMG and battle rifle is different from other weapons. You see the shield change colors as it drains. Perhaps it is mixed up with the deployable shield effects?

2. The glass in Two Betrayals (same for B40) is green/purple. I think the fix for this is to disable anisotropic filteringfiltering just for the glass texture. In ASCM, ifafudafi either changed the texture entirely or has it filtered correctly.

3. The sniper rifle zoom reticle is off in Two Betrayals.

4. There is an assault rifle right to the left at the beginning of Keyes that is cannot be picked up.

On suggestion; in The Pillar of Autumn, I think it makes more sense to introduce the Battle Rifle where you see the dead marine in the hallway (currently there's an assault rifle) leading to the airlock and stairway up to the second level. Since this is the only vertical play space in the level and you are shooting at elevated enemies, seems like a good place to first get this weapon.

I just realized you are the first person to introduce the concept of elites using human weapons once the flood outbreak has happened. That really underscores how Halo is in disarray and everyone is scrambling to get off. I think that's a really novel idea, and actually I think the SPV3 team ripped that off their upcoming map, "None left behind".

Sorry people are being negative on the imgur forums man. Every negative comment is probably an alias of Masterz, who seems to poop on any Halo fan content he isn't involved with. Great work as always and looking forward to the finished product!

Actually, SPV3 introduced the concept of Covenant using human weapons first. I'm the one who's ripping-I mean "borrowing" from them.

Also, that assault rifle at the beginning of Keyes is a feature that's present whenever you skip the opening cinematic. This is present even in the original X-Box version of the game.

Also, I will be fixing the sniper rifle in Two Betrayals after I finish version 1.5.2 of The Library. I just recently discovered that the Refined Campaign tagset has a proper fix for the sniper rifle scope on widescreen monitors, and I've been implementing it in levels a30 and a50. All levels featuring the weapon will be receiving this fix.

As for the glass on b40... I plan on using the Refined tagset for that, so hopefully that will be fixed in the 1.5.2 update and then the second update for c40 as well when I get to it.

As for the SMG and Battle Rifle's shield effects... I never noticed that before now.

Thank your for your support, though! It's nice to see my work get some recognition.

Despite you already putting your foot in your mouth accusing us of "stealing" his ideas when he has already pointed out to you we did it first (and by extension, pointing out you haven't even played project you choose to downplay), let me clear a few things up here.

I don't have any alternative accounts, and I don't ask people to post on my behalf to "put others down" or "insult their work". I to see what other people work on, and I like to contribute when I can. I've always tried my best to build up other peoples projects, and generally adhere to a "if you don't have anything nice to say about it, don't say anything". That said, I tend not to look to deeply at any singleplayer campaign mod projects, including SPV3's co-lead dev SOI simply because if I see something I like, I'll want to use it and I don't want to trample on someone else's good ideas and innovations. My lack of comments here have nothing to do with not wanting to see this project succeed, and more to do with not wanting to be influenced or seem disparaging in any remarks on decisions I disagree with. I think what's been done here by Biogoji is great, and messing with the campaign is obviously something I approve of.

As far as me "pooping on projects I am not involved with," it's just untrue. In the past years, I have offered help, assistance, assets, promoted or co-developed things ranging from the UUI, Fall of Mombassa, Takedown, VKMT's work (despite a rocky relationship with Megasean), Chimera, Tempera, Open Sauce, and MEK. We've also at various stages helped contribute assets (or offered) to projects to i01, Contingency, and Iron Hammer. The R&D we did with Moses on MEK also contributed greatly to community wide features and projects, such as compressed animation extraction and xbox bsp conversion (used in HCE Refined). And if you really want to go back into the past, HEK+, the open sourcing of SPV2 content (both tags and max files, the later which were used in Lumoria, and Operation Purgepoint) and I advocated strongly for HEK+ to have Halo CE map support upon when the community was strongly against it.

On top of this, we have encouraged use of our SPV3 release content and byproducts of it (HXE, Placien) and soon hopefully built in map post processing for all open sauce based maps. While my involvement in these projects varies from "essential" to "testing" to "promotion" it's disengenous to think I poop on anything that isn't my own SPV3 or Oddball projects.

While you might want to point fingers at me in regards with El Dewrito, it is a much more complex issue that involved legal issues and concern of guilt by association, as well as dislike not for the game itself, but the attitudes surrounding it.

I should probably also point out if you are active in any halo discords, I've always offered my assistance to anyone with an issue that I can help with, granted it does not become a multi hour project in itself.

Biogoji keep up the great work, and if you ever plan to make this use open sauce, feel free to DM me or shoot me a message on discord in regards to any open sauce issues or if you'd want to add some of our new post processing systems. Also if I may suggest, I'd just post when there are updates here in the thread, people tend to just jump to the last page and don't seem to realize when you update the OP with new info.

Oh goodie, I was hoping you'd see this so now I get to tell you what a loser you are.

I read about two sentences of what you said and I think it's great you have such strong opinions about something that has no real life relevance. How many hours have you devoted of your life to a video game that's almost twenty years old? That's means you're in your mid to late twenties and you still spend hours of your life on video games. And that's all fine, if you weren't such a pompous, pontificating arrogant little dweeb (yes, I've seen what you look).

People get there sense of purpose in part from feeling and important and I have to say it's pathetic this is what makes you feel important. Halo nerds are truly the worst. Enjoy your crap game and forum.

I noticed on T&R that the Needler has reverted to using the stock animations, where the previous level had new ones. As well, I could swore I saw the Needle Carbine have a unique super combine explosion in the previous level, but it just reuses the Needler one in T&R.

By the way, thank you for all of this. Its a neat little campaign mod. The Needle Carbine is my favorite. When I was experimenting with Halo 5 Forge while away at school a couple of years ago, that weapon pad glitch allowed me to create a Carbine that functioned exactly like this one, using the glitch on the Blood of Suban and Rain of Oblivion (for some reason, Rain of Oblivion was a separate weapon from the Carbine, which made it possible to combine the variants).

You've come a long way from struggling to figure out how to get a map to extract and properly recompile. Glad to see you're still at it and having fun. You've put together some interesting maps from the looks of it, and know your way around how the game works pretty well now.

Just wanted to compliment your resilience BioGoji!
This gives me the same nostalgic giddy vibes from when I first discovered Renamon's maps years ago.

It's pretty neat to see so much of this reflective of where we started in SPV1, with basic ideas like adding pistols to T&R, Rocket Hogs instead of Chaingun hogs, finding a role for the BR. Looking forward to seeing what you do in the future with this.

Hi, the first mission is ok. From the second one, however, a "slaughter" half happens, as you can see from the photo attached in the post, the game becomes practically unplayable. Moreover, besides the graphic "bugs", there is also a very annoying sound every now and then, like "bzzzz". Solutions?
