You nailed it in the head. I didn't look at the destination directory properly - I forgot the Microsoft Games folder because I had copy pasted the game to the Program Files, but had forgot to make a Microsoft Games folder, thanks a lot!

Check the VirtualStore folder that I mentioned in your last thread.

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\<Mirrors install path from here on>

I'm on Windows XP, so there's no Users folder as far as I know, or it's been removed, because when I type in C:/Users/ and hit enter, it just says the directory isn't found...H:/ drive also turns up nothing - no local or roaming folder, and doing a hidden folder search yields no results either...

Does it matter if it's a network account? (I.e. Halo CE is in the local C: drive, while my account I'm logged into is on a network drive marked H:)

Whoops, I meant once I put a custom ui.map into the maps folder, nothing changed - it was still the same stock UI of Custom Edition.

Ok, you may have remembered my previous thread regarding single player maps not loading. Well it seems to go deeper than that - Certain maps I don't have in my maps folder will show up in the map list (e.g. Infinity, Timberland) and they load successfully, but any custom multiplayer OR single player maps will not load, nor will custom UIs. I've set the permissions for all users to allow full control of the whole Halo Custom Edition folder, subfolders and files inclusive, but still no dice. How is Halo reading and loading maps I don't even have in my maps directory, and could this be the solution to playing SP maps? Where ARE those phantom maps being stored, and could I put custom maps there and thus make Halo read and load them?

Could this be the ultimate time killer in my IT class?

BTW, the computer I've installed it on is Windows XP SP2 (or 3, I've yet to check), so giving me Windows Vista/7 folder structures won't really help.

OH MY GOD IT TOTALLY did not work. Enabled full permissions on the Halo Custom Edition folder, started up game and did map_name a10, still nothing.

Ran as user with admin rights, still nothing. Dear oh dear, where is the repository for the maps in the appdata folder or whatever for xp? What is the directory? Thanks in advance

Nah Btcc22, I'm installing CE directly onto the computers, into the local hard drive heheh, the teacher doesn't seem to mind, but thanks for trying to help though.

I don't have a loading time problem though...it's just that single player maps don't load at all, only multiplayer maps work. Loading times aren't an issue for these old-school computers

Enable devmode?

wut

@Jesse
I don't think quotes affect the command - I've successfully used the map_name command on my home comp, managed to load custom maps with it.

@Btc22
Hmm...that's very interesting, I might try it, although are there any places on the local disk which don't require admin rights? Our school allocates a certain amount of space on network drives where our account information is stored (i.e. schoolwork), and the space is around 150 MB per account lol, Halo CE with the maps I put in amounts to around 3 GB.

EDIT: Also, please don't say My Documents or some obvious folder like that - it doesn't save to the My Documents folder on the hard drive, it saves it to the account that's logged on. HOWEVER, if you can tell me a way to save on the local (i.e. actual computer itself) My Documents folder, then thank you very much and you've spruced up my IT lessons!

@Honorguard
I don't think I'll be holding a LAN party any time soon in my IT class haha, but I'll take a look into that.

Thanks heaps for the help guys!

Ahh, windows XP, service pack 2, it should be. How the hell does Halo read from the appdata directory, and not the actual maps folder itself?

EDIT: Also, that first reply was pretty damn quick!

Halo CE General Discussion » map_name command not working May 21, 2013 06:00 AM (Total replies: 17)

At school in my IT class, when I have nothing/not much to do I'll play Counter strike, however, it's gotten awfully boring, and so far I've successfully installed CE on the computer I use with the CD key from my retail copy of Halo PC, it can actually run quite well, but I've got an issue that seems quite self explanatory in the subject title, but I'll elaborate.

Multiplayer maps work fine, I can go into the console and punch in map_name bloodgulch and it'll load up Blood Gulch, however, if I try map_name a10 or b40 or any single player maps that I placed in the maps directory, nothing happens. No loading screen, no "command not found" message, absolutely nothing. If it matters, the campaign maps that I have are the H3-style ones by Zigadirasu. This also affects other custom single player maps within the maps folder too, any ideas on what could be the issue?

Thanks in advance!

What's going to be in V2? Can you give us a rundown, or is it classified until release?

That's a chin-mounted gun at the front, the landing gear is right behind it, if I recall correctly.

ooohoohoo, first-person falcon gunner...nice, but how will looking around go? Will it be like Halo PC/CE style where you could whiz the camera right around, but you had to wait for the turret to catch up?

Halo CE General Discussion » Vehicles - Works in Process thread [WIP] Mar 15, 2013 07:37 AM (Total replies: 4546)

I forgot...I know it's possible to set a 1st person camera when driving, but what about the gunner seat? It'd be really hectic if you were right there, with the Warthog turret shooting away in front of your face, even if the armour plating on the sides would be a bit constricting :D

^ what he said

How's those Reach civvies going, or are you busy working on other stuff?

Just when I thought R93 was staying low on this...but indeed, those shaders could use work...it's a good start though.

Just for future reference killzone64, because I'm so anally-retentive :P a chain-gun is a electrically powered single-barrel gun where feeding is done via a chain :D

The Warthog uses a Gatling-style turret :P

Ahh, yeah now I remember that tag. It looks pretty damn good, whoever made it is beast

EDIT: how the hell does he even get his hands on this stuff?
