i noticed that "1 - default" is in a drop down box in my 3ds max material editor....
omg I ran tool again and got about 100 open edges!
they are the edges on my plane map...
box sky didnt work.
Anyone want my current map model and try to add a sky to it? I know cant do it.

I started with a plain plane, and made a map out of it. all i need to know is, how to add a sky to it!
I tried for hours, all i got were open edge and cant update errors. i would be happy if someone could tell me how to add a sky the correct way.

ok, first i got a lot if errors about one bitmap, i get the original bitmaps with hek+ (overwrote old bitmaps) and that error is gone, but i get this error now:

hold down your scroll wheel, or middle button, and move your mouse.
I cant seem to find the option where it makes flipped faces appear totally transparent. like in gmax. its hard to make maps when flipped faces appear black and not transparent! if you can tell me where i can make flipped faces transparent, thanks

readme says this:
if you already have the DLLS do not replace them with the ones in this package. place the dle into the following directory:
X:(where X is the letter of your main hard drive.)/program files/autodesk(or 3ds max)/3ds max/plugins(or stdplugs).
this directory might vary with your system configuration or how you installed 3ds max.
i did that, but i got an error upon loading 3ds max. anyone have any more detailed instructions?

i was playing around with the BSP tag converter, and i noticed that the original maps, like bloodgulch, have a ton of open edges. if i edit a levels BSP with all those open edges, and compile, will i get an error?
